solve the following eqtn for x:

10 (x + 12) = 4 (x + 5)

and you have to give an exact answer using fractions if necessary but no decimals...

where to start... also can you put this into solver in your calculator and get the answer??... it comes out to be -16.66

    Unknown in the Left and Constants in the Right side, we have:

    10x - 4x = 20 - 120

    6x = -100

    x= -100/6 = -50/3 =  -16.66

    I don't know how to put this in solver calculator but if you actually need to do that, then honey you got way bigger problems.  THIS IS REALLY EASY.  I could do it when I was at least in 7th grade if not earlier.  Been a long time can't really remember.

    10x + 120 = 4x + 20

The outcome from inputing the equation in your calculator is correct but seeing you don't want it in decimals the fraction version of your answer is an improper fraction. it's  16 whole number 4 over 6 so all u have to do is replace ".66" with the fraction "4 over 6" and so you'll have 16 as the whole number at the side.

    Where to start: In Linear equations like the one you have above, the first thing to do is to open the brackets on either side of the equality sign (=). you do this by multiplying the contents of the bracket with the figure outside the bracket as shown in the following

    10(x+12) = 4(x+5)

    10x + 120 = 4x + 20

    next you collect like terms by moving the respective figures over the equality sign (note that when you do this the sign in front of the figure changes) so you have
