10 year old getting an iPhone...?

Question

My sister is 10 years old and my dad is considering getting her an iPhone, how do I explain that she really shouldn't get one at 10?

I am not jealous however, as I have been offered it as well. I just honestly don't think it is a smart move in anyway to let her have this phone when she has a perfectly fine one now.

We are fortunate, but I still think she needs to be taught basic skills of the value of money.

A 10 year old shouldn't even have a phone, I didn't, and plus if they were, they wouldn't need an iphone, they'd just need a tiny one for emergencies and such. But an iphone, their are many features on that phone, a 10 year old wouldn't need. I suggest if she wants to get one that bad, get something small.

Even if the money isn't an issue, I don't think it's a good idea. People get attacked in the street for their phones all the time. Nobody's going to bother for a kid with a £10 cheapo, but an iPhone...

I agree and a 10 year old doesnt actually need any phone in the first place.  What has this world come to?  Kids demanding computers/phones/playstations/etc and getting them - crazy.

Blame the parents? well yes, I do.

It's hard when you see your parents doing something you would not do.

You have every right to disagree with their decision.  However, you are not one of the parents.  Leave it up to them.  If them make the wrong decision, do your best not to say "I told you so," when things go wrong.  :)

a ten yr old having something as expensive and broad as an iphone is just a pure waste of money.  She is going to lose/break it within a month.  Tell your dad to wait til shes older, maybe 13, when she has more friends and a social network to call.

my 10 year old doesnt even have a phone. who do you need to call at that age? it's not like that's even old enough to be out alone. if ur dad cant see that this is a mistake, im sure he will in time. if not, try talking to him honestly or even showing him this page. ur sister will grow up to be spoiled and expect too much if she gets everything at 10 years old.
