Microsoft struggled to keep up with the overwhelming traffic following the Xbox LIVE Arcade game’s release. Leaderboards went from read-only mode to being unavailable.
Every so often a game comes around that the publisher exceeds expectations and then every rarely does a sequel of that game come out that manages to do exceed expectations and then some!
Trials Evolution is one such game as the Xbox Live Arcade game had so much server traffic that the servers ended up crashing. While that may sound like a bad thing to some, it is in fact a huge testament as to how successful the game is.
In essence it what the game managed to achieve can be likened to being movie tickets being sold out, in the sense that demands exceeded supply by a huge amount, as digital downloads of a game are unlimited in supply.
That may have been a poor analogy, yet the reader surely knows what we’re on about...surely?
Moving on, Redlynx had the following to say in a recent interview with Edge, “The stress on the leaderboard servers became extremely severe late last evening. For a while, the leaderboards were in read-only mode, then couldn’t be read at all.”
The statement continued by explaining that Microsoft literally had to add more servers in order to meet the overwhelming demand, “Microsoft worked quickly to deploy more hardware and the situation seems to have stabilised.”
It concluded, “We apologise for the inconvenience, and obviously we’re working closely with Microsoft’s backend team to improve the situation and prevent this sort of thing from happening again.”
To be fair one cannot blame Microsoft for any of this as the game exceeded everyone’s expectations and the fact of the matter remains that single-player remained largely unaffected.
The latest addition to the series also adds multiplayer action to the action as well as some rather impressive graphics. In essence the game is what one would expect from the series but with that extra bit of polish and a few minor tweaks that have truly
taken it to the next level.
Critics have praised the title and fans just cannot seem to get enough of Trials Evolution but we want your thoughts. Let us know what you think of the game in the comments section below, that is, if you’re not too busy playing the game.
