  1. Yes, you can use your own mechanics as long as they are certified. Plus, you must keep all records of maintenance and repairs preferably done around the suggested service intervals. However there are advantages the dealer can offer like recording all service done for you (if you go to the same dealer frequently) and the mechanic would know your car a little better (sometimes). The dealer will generally cost a little more though.

  2. No you can't have your own mechanic.

You have if get the oil changed ect... at the Hyundai shop.

And 1 or 2 time a year you HAVE TO go and get your car tuned up. And get the Air Filters changed at the Hyundai  shop.

  3. Why would you take it to your own mechanics when it is under warranty? You can change your own oil or have it done wherever you wish but do need to keep records so you can prove it was done if necessary. I have taken care of my car and the only time they see it is when I needed warranty work or something I did not want to do. Never have any problems getting the warranty work done. Now I did and I knew it when I did it is void the warranty on the battery. I made some changes so I could put a 5 year battery in instead a 3 year battery and at about 1/3 the cost Hyundai wanted.

  4. No, you cannot use your own mechanic. To keep the warranty in force, you must have the car maintained at the recommended intervals by an authorized shop.

Even if you adhere to conditions, this is no assurance that everything will be covered. Many people report that when they take their car in for a problem, they are told it is normal and there is no problem. So a warranty is only good if they honor it.

  5. The standard warranty is a 5 year/ 60,000 mile bumper to bumper.  The powertrain (the parts of the engine & trans that move the vehicle) is 10 years/ 100,000 miles.  Only the original owner receives the 10/100.

You should have received a 'warranty coverage guide' with your purchase.  It explains the warranties on everything from bulbs to paint to the engine.  Many parts are only 1yr/12k, some are 3yr/36k most are 5yr/60k.

Choosing a favorite mechanic will save you money, but perhaps not time as they will always have to have parts ordered or delivered from the dealer if they aren't available aftermarket (generic).  Note:  aftermarket parts are not covered under Hyundai's warranty.

Any warranty work must be performed at a Hyundai dealership.  Certain situations may require emergency repair, Hyundai is very good about reimbursement for out-of-pocket warranty expenses.

The warranty is there to protect you against manufacturer's defects only.  Therefore, maintenance is an important part in keeping your end of the bargain.  If you fail to change your oil for 30,000 miles and your engine blows, Hyundai will not give you a new engine OR if you cannot prove you've maintained it yourself, Hyundai can't help you.  If you change your oil at the suggested intervals and (at least) loosely follow the dealerships recommendations for maintenance (maintenance is based on industry standards and geographical climate), Hyundai has no problem warrantying anything that fails within the warranty parameters.

If you hit a pot hole and blow a tire or bend your rim - it is not covered by the warranty.  Absolutely use your own mechanic for maintenance.  Try not to use your Hyundai dealer for only warranty repairs.  Generally speaking, those who also throw some cash jobs toward their dealer, tend to receive better treatment when an emergency arises.  Best to be on their good side.

I like to compare it to talking to a police officer.  If you're polite, there's a better chance he'll let you go with a warning.  If not, he takes it personally.  Your dealer is the same way.
