100% Curious ...... what is all the hype about 2012?

I know they say that the world will supposedly end, but why 2012? Who started this? Who prophesised this?

Lots of ancient people prophesized a change will happen in 2012. The Mayan calendar ends on that date (The calendar is one of the most accurate), the Greek Oracle, I Ching and a few other cultures say that date is supposed to be significant.

Scientifically, the Earth is supposed to align with the center of the milkyway galaxy on the 2012 winter solstice and hypothetically there is supposed to be a polar shift (Earth completes a wobble on its axis) and some people believe the planet Nibiru (the Sumerians spoke of) is supposed to complete its 3,600 year oval orbit around the sun. Some Christians believe that year will be the return of Christ.

Something may or may not happen in 2012, but with the way things are going right now I'd rather be prepared.

Its the end of civilization as we know it.  Obama will be wanting to talk to our enemies when they nuke us.

Well I hope to be one of the survivors who is ferried away by one of those UFOs. They will take a select few of us 350,000 years into the future where we can survive in the few places on earth that have not been completely contaminated by radioactive fallout.

Enjoyed the previous answers; so I felt I would like to share

many many spiritual teachers are saying 2012 is a time for

a great spiritual change on the planet.

I agree no one really knows what's up w 2012 but I sincerely

hope those spiritual teachers are right.Remember 2000 was

supposed to be a mess cause of all the computers? Some

people thought the world was gonna shut down or something.
