i ran the 100 meter dash in 12.5 seconds with no spikes, no blocks and no competitioon

spikes- increase traction and provide less chance of slipping

blocks-blocks help you start off faster

compitiion- well you know what they say competition brings the best out of people

so is running it in 12.5 secs good for a kid going to be a freshmen in highschool nextyear and if i ran with spikes blocks and some ppl what do you think my time would be

should i try out for the track team in HS?

  1. I agree don't put your money on becoming an amazing 100 meter dasher casue when I wore spikes I didn't get that much different results and noone where I live at least used blocks so don't expect to have a dramatic drop with spikes...... But still try out =)

  2. im also going to be a freshmen i also do 100 meter dash and 200 my time was 11:4 seconds but it doest really matter what you use in the event all it takes is speed and endurance , it would be good with other people in the event but more harder because its a whole new game in high school more people in your school that are running in track and field , i my oppion dont let others slow you down in high school keep up the good work join track  email me and tell  me if you won its ashley.veve@yahoo.com good luck

  3. 12.5 is good for an incoming freshman.  It's really hard to predict how good your time will be because no one knows what your potential will be.  The best thing you can do is practice, train, and listen to your coaches.  Don't think that shoes, competitors, and blocks are all you need.

I'd say yes, you should go out for the track team and consider other events like the 200m and 400m.

  4. Yes, you should.

Even if you don't make it.

And Ashley V. the person above me.

There is no way you ran an 11.4

Assuming your a girl from your name, state champions for the 100m dash girls who are seniors get 11.5 and above.

I don't believe you have that in middle school

  5. It's just "okay."  Most competitive varsity high school sprinters probably ran sub -12 at your age in those conditions.

But of course you should try out... why not?  Even if you ran 13 you should try out.  Maybe you wouldn;t get the 100m spot, but maybe the 400 or the 800 would be good for you.  You'll never know if you do'nt try.
