Question:

100m butterfly Bejing 2008 Phelps vs. Cavic? Tie?

I believe the result should have been a tie. Ties have happened before in the olympics so why not now? One camera angle points out that cavic won then the other points out that phelps won. Plus, one can argue that cavic did not press against the sensor hard enough, while phelps was in butterfly motion and his hands slammed on the sensor. In addition, if you don't call a tie between narrowest possible margin then what can be a tie? No swimmer will EVER touch the sensors at the same time.

  1. Whether you like it or not the judges have already reviewed the race and ruled in favor of Phelps.  If Cavic feels strongly enough about it, an appeal can be filed.

  2. No it should not be a tie Cavic coasted Phelps earned it. ESPN did a super zoom and it looked like Phelps beat him by about an inch.

No ties and yes it is fair.

There was also one hundredth of a second difference between bronze and 4th so should their be a tie there as well? I don't think so.

Their was about nine tenths of a second between first and sixth place.

So lets just give them all Gold Medals and a juice box and tell them there are no losers everybody is a winner.

That is the difference between world class athletes and juice box slugging everybody gets a trophy neighborhood sports programs.

They have to go the distance not almost the whole distance Cavic coasted Phelps took the extra half stroke. No ties

  3. clearly Phelps won, check this slide show http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multime... wasn't even near a tie.

  4. why have some american pride first of all second of all the sensors go off with the slightest touch and ur g*y

  5. the touch pads dont lie, phelps won from every angle. and yes it was VERY close but phelps won in the end... nothing you can do about it now, so there is no point in people making this HUGE deal about it.

  6. Phelps won. This shows it clearly.

Oh, and just to let you know, it was slowed to 1/10,000 of a second, and confirmed Phelps won. Even the Serbians admitted it.

  7. It did look extremely close...but if cavic won or if it was a tie that would of been the decision... GO PHELPS!

  8. im pretty sure the computer sensor would know better than anyone. but i guess if it failed for that split second cavic could have won.

  9. Nah i think phelps did win cause da sensor can tell who made it first n it diffidently said phelps Won

  10. Just look at this:

    http://100thofasecond.com/

    GLORY TO CAVIC!!!

    GLORY TO SERBIA!!!

  11. the sensor does not need alot of force to set it off, it read that phelps touchd .01 seconds before cavic. and no an appeal was not filed, a protest was filed by the Serbians but they dropped it(it did not get rejected) after the FINA and the IOC and the Serbians viewed the tape and all 3 agreed that Phelps indeed won.
