  1. Try checking out stores that supply RV's & sail boats; I have seen some really cool displays.  I think it added up to about $250 to get a decent size solar panel and battery to store the power.  Costco.com also sells solar panel chargers.

  2. For this you will need a solar cell facing south and a big battery like out of a car, a shunt regulator and some low voltage lights.

  3. In the USA, Canada and Europe, you'd face your solar electric panels to the south. But in the southern hemisphere (Australia, New Zealand and South America) you'd need the panels facing north. You can place the panels directly on your roof, if it is angled. But for a flat roof, you'll need to build a frame out of metal or wood that with hold the panels so they receive the maximum sunlight possible.

You could set it up bare-bones style to charge during the day direct from the panels, then disconnect them at closing time and connect your 12V lights to the battery.

There are plenty of 12V Halogen Quartz lights you could use. It all depends how large an area you want to illuminate. They would be good for a shop window. But for the store inside, you should be able to run one or two flourescent lamps.
