at what size does the TV actually make a difference between the two resolutions?

for example, 720p and 1080p is gonna look the same on a 30" tv.. does it look the same at 40? what about 42? where does it begin and stop?

  1. It depends on two factors - screen size and viewing distance. If you're viewing from 10 feet or more, then you'll have to have a giant set to see any difference, probably at least 46". For sets around 40" or less, you'd have to be sitting really close, probably around 6 ft, for 1080 to show any advantage.

  2. The majority of it depends on source.  The only sources that will take advantage of a 1080p television are Blu-Ray, and Some X-Box 360 or PS3 games.  If you do not have one of those sources it is a moot point.  If you are however hooking one up I would recommend at least a 40" television before you can notice a difference.
