  1. That's the nanny state for you.  Welcome to the Socialist States of America!

Just for the record though, if you would have been involved in a smash em up and gotten seriously hurt, you would have been responsible for your own medical expenses right?  That's the flip side to personal freedom.

  2. In GA it's maxxed at like $25, but the court can add other stuff like court costs.  best buckle up or budget for citations

  3. yeah but what if u got in a accident that seatbelt would have saved your life....

  4. You obviously think laws apply to everyone else but you. Wearing a seatbelt makes sense to me. Pay the fine and learn from it.

  5. what do you mean you forgot to put it on? $109 bucks says you won't forget again!

  6. Next time you won't forget.

Next time it could save your life, thats usually considered to be worth the $109.

  7. Yes that is bullshit. I think its rediculous that the law does not require you to wear a helmet when U drive a motorcycle but yet the cops prey on people for not wearing a seatbelt. Its bullshit b/c im not hurting ne-one but potentially myself by not wearing it so how are u going to fine me?!?!

  8. It's not hard to buckle your seatbelt. If you need to, make it part of your daily routine so you'll never forget to do it. You can kill yourself AND others in the vehicle if you don't.

  9. my sons girl friend got into my car she is very large.... I saw the light go on me the police came over to the side where my sons girl was  she was not wearing her seat and I had not noticed she takes up so much space ...well, I got a ticket as well... we both did ! It is the law

  10. Hopefully the pain of the fine will stay long enough to remind you to always wear a seatbelt. Be grateful you weren't hit or hit anything while you didn't have the belt on.

  11. While nobody likes to get fined $109, I'm sure it'll help you remember to put on your seatbelt in the future.

It has been proven that those involved in a traffic accident are much less likely to suffer serious injury or death if they're wearing their seatbelt.

All in all if you think about all the times you didn't get caught for speeding, or other infractions, $109 isn't that big a deal.

Tomorrow if you have a crash and your seatbelt saves your life, you'll realize that the fine is insignificant.

  12. tell them you couldnt get your wallet out to give your license to the dik cop, and had to remove your seatbelt, and when you did, the cop wrote you a ticket.

the court will probably reduce the fine

  13. well they determined that people just laughed off their $10-$20 fines for not buckling.  so I guess next time you won't forget.  and i bet you tell at least 5 of your closest friends,  not to mention the 20 or so that read your question here.  I'd say the $109 fine worked.

I used to never wear my seatbelt.  couldn't understand why the government could make me save my own life.  well a friend explained it to me.  when you're in an accident and have a belt on, you're much more likely to be able to control the vehicle to a safer stop,  thus avoiding another collision that could injure or kill another person.

so just put the seatbelt on.  it's easier.

  14. Welcome to the 21st Century.  We are now much safer, but it is costly

  15. Yeahh but u lucky u didn't get hurt

  16. If you weren't wearing your seat belt, and the state you were driving in has a seat belt law, then you are responsible.

My oldest daughter, who lives in England, was in the U.S.for her father's funeral. She was driving a rental car from the funeral back to my house. I'm sure her mind was not on the speed limit; however, she was "pulled over" by a traffic control person and given a ticket for "traveling" 20 miles over the posted speed limit. She paid $150 for her "speeding". I'm sure, if she hadn't been wearing her seat belt, she would have been fined another $100.

I can imagine a person exceeding the speed limit; but, if your state has a "seat belt" law, I can't imagine that you would "forget" to "buckle up".

  17. Welcome to the real world.  Yes traffic fines and fees have been going up with the sign of the times.
