  1. I imagine someone will spend a lot of time on this.  However, I think that you would get more answers if you broke the questions up into several separate questions.  You are asking for a large amount of information.

  2. 1.Describe each of the following seismic waves with respect to ground motion, speed , and the materials each can travel through.

a)P wave can go through solid rock and fluids

b)S wave can only go through solid rock or mantel

c)L wave a mechanical wave that propagates along the interface between differing media, usually two fluids with different densities. (most dangerous)

4.. Give two reasons why L waves arrive at a location after P waves and S waves. the P and S waves cause the surface layer to shift side to side and friction and some book explain that there is a side to side vacuume effect also during the shift.

5.What information do geologists obtain from measuring seismic waves? The velosity, which ones do the most damage. Depths of the seismic waves.  We can also determine how deep the bedrock is and some of the different rock types deep down in the crust.

6.a)Explain how magma and lava are similar. They both are melted rock in the plastic state.

b)Explain how magma and lava are different. Lava is above the surface and magma below the surface.

7.What can studying volcanoes tell a geologist about the interior of the Earth? Geologists study volcanoes and earthquakes, to determine how and why they behave the way they do, how we might be able to predict future activity, and what they tell us about the composition and structure of the interior of the Earth. In fact, it was geophysicists studying earthquakes who made possible the global nuclear test ban treaty - because they learned how to tell underground nuclear tests from earthquakes, making verification of treaty violations possible!

8.a)What different aspects of lava would a geologist examine? The viscosity, velosity, gas content, volcano type, crystalline in surrounding areas, and cooling rate.
