  1. 1. Cross multiply.

    (x-1)(2x+5) = (x+3)(2x+3)

    2. Multiply.

    2x^2 + 5x - 2x -5 = 2x^2 + 3x + 6x + 9

    3. Combine like terms.

    3x - 5 = 9x + 9

    6x = -14

    x = -7/3

  2. (2x + 5)/(2x + 3) = (x + 3)/(x - 1)

    Cross multiply to get:

    (2x + 5)(x - 1) = (x + 3)(2x + 3), or:

    2x^2 + 3x - 5 = 2x^2 + 9x + 9.

    6x = -14

    x = -7/3
