In the "The Pound Error" (06/09/08, The New Yorker), Louis Menand writes:

"Pound’s aspirations for literature were grand. He believed that bad writing destroyed civilizations and that good writing could save them..."

Is there a particular quote where Pound wrote or said that? Where/when is it? Thanks!

  1. Good luck. He was prolific, on every important subject before, during and after WWII. I did find the original New Yerker piece...

  2. This is the closest I could find:

If a nation's literature declines, the nation atrophies and decays.
