Question:

10th Attempt to install RAM?

I am attempting to upgrade the RAM in my PC and it keeps giving me all kinds of errors or won't even get past the BIOS screen. I have an Micron Millennia 920i (I think) with an Intel D895PBZ motherboard, Pentium 4 HT 3.0 GHz Socket 478 processor, and am attempting to install 2 x 1GB PC3200 CL3 Patriot Memory model # PSD2G400KH DDR Dual Channel.

Every time I get it in and start up the desktop, it will either freeze at the BIOS start up, or will get into windows, past the password, then will suddenly go to Blue Screen Of Death! Now every time it has done this, it has given me a different message.

Please Help!!!

Thank You in advance!!

  1. Make sure your motherboard supports the RAM you got, or it you might have short circuited your RAM.

  2. One of two things, either your comptuers motherboard is not compatible with that ammount as there is a limit to what you can upgrade to or you fried the RAM stick, which is a very easy thing to do.

  3. Usually when you install new ram the system wants you to go into bios and configure the new ram. You usually don't have to do anything because the bios automatically configures it right but you still have to go into bios then "exit, saving changes" so the bios retains the configuration for the ram. Make sure it is at 2.6 volts. When you install the ram do you press it in all the way until you hear a "click" at each end and the end clips close and lock by themselves? A lot of people close the end clips by hand when the ram isn't fully seated. Should also be sure to either unplug the power cord from the power supply or turn the rocker switch on the PSU to off to get the power off the board before you play with ram. Even with the computer turned off there is still power on the board and you can damage the board and/or ram yanking and putting ram in when the boards got power to it.

Odd, thats 64X8 ram that the 875 chipset supports and it meets all the qualifications. Could be a bad stick or you have a compatibility issue.

Try with just one stick trying each stick one at a time.
