10x optical zoom vs 12x?

Question

So I gotta chose between a pocketable (that's big for me...) camera with 10x zoom and 9mp or a larger 10mp with 12x zoom.

My last was a 6mp with a 12x zoom. Will i notice the difference between the 10x and 12x?

I loved the zoom, but I want it to go in my pocket really badly....
