i heard that 11 of the 50 states were named after people but it didnt say what states or the people they were named after does anyone know please help it interested me and now i wanna know

Georgia: in honor of King George II of England.

Louisiana: the French explorer Robert Cavelier de La Salle named the region Louisiana to honor France's King Louis XIV in 1682.

I can't think of any more.  There are several named after Indian tribes so perhaps they mean that?

Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania are currently states.

Franklin was a state at one time.  That makes ten.

If there must be one more, could it be New York, named to honor the Duke of York, the future King James II?
