My daughter went for a physical today and I was surprised when she was told to strip and was given a robe. They did the regulars, the eyes, ears, mouth and all. Then he asked her to disrobe to take a quick look at her development. When she was naked, he looked briefly at her b*****s(shes a 34A cup) and got his hands under them and slightly pushed up as a push up bra would do. Then he looked at her pubes. He said she was developing pubic hair well and that he wanted to look inside. I okayed it since I would be in the room and able to stop him at any point. He had her lay with legs apart and used the same kind of light he would use to look in a mouth. He looked for about ten seconds and let her dress again. He staying in the room while she dressed but was busy with papers. I was just wondering if all the looking was right. The onnly touching was the push up of the b*****s. Was that the correct exam?

  1. I probably would have left with my child immediately.  If he was an OB-GYN, I could have dealt with it.  If I had asked him to check something specifically that would have been alright.  Where was his assistant or nurse during all of this?   It's funny that the person was not asked into the room.  No.  Sorry I can't agree to this one.  There is too many unstable folks out there.

    Find another doctor.

  2. Well, there is no way for a doctor to check your daughter's development without an exam and a talk.

I did find his method inappropriate, however.  Your daughter should have worn the gown at all times.  Some doctors just don't see kids as "real people."

I would look for a more sensitive physician

  3. yea that's very normal...however, the getting dress while he was still in the room isn't cool, he should have stepped out or sumthin!!

  4. i never had that done to me when i was 11. i have heard of doctors checking boy's testicles but not girl's b*****s and v****a. if your daughter felt uncomfortable, i would look for either a nice female doctor, or a better male doctor.

  5. yea thats fine thats what my doctor does to me...

  6. Yes it was okay, he was making sure she is healthy and is growing as she should be.  She has reached puberty any other exams are going to be just like this one.  Peditricians and family practitioners are educated in the reproductive systems of children.  I can't see taking a CHILD to an OBGYN when a Peditrician can do the same exam.  An OBGYN does papsmears which are not done on CHILDREN only sexually active teens and adults.  If the CHILD of 11 is not sexually active then a Peditrician doing a general exam of the b*****s and vaginal area are quite normal and what Peditricians do when puberty is apparent.  Obviously "tacc" has no clue.
