I will be able to pick him up from school for the most part - But I am pregnant - due early November.

Around that time we are planning for him to ride the city bus home.

We don't live close to family and everyone that we know works.

What do you think of an 11 year old on a city bus without his parents?

Walking is not an option because of the busy streets.

  1. If he is mature enough and you feel safe having him ride the city bus then let him. Make sure he has a cell phone though in case of emergency and make sure it's fully charged everyday!! Have him call you as he is waiting for the bus, getting on the bus, and getting off the bus.

  2. He should be fine, for less than two miles.  Is a bicycle an option?  That might be better than waiting for a bus.  Just ride the bus with him a few times, until he has the hang of it.

  3. i would try and start a carpool with a neighbor nearby.

you can offer to drive their kid until november, and then ask if they could drive your son for a couple months.

or you could ask a neighbor who has a kid at the same school to drive your son and pay them for it.

  4. sounds fine, just make sure he gets a cell phone, because you never know about some pople these days. even if its a prepaid one just to call you and check in with when hes getting on the bus or if he needs your help

  5. the city bus is fine. thats the same rule in our city too.

he should be fine. just give him the stranger talk one more time.

plus this might be a good time for him to get a cell phone.

    **good luck!

  6. CAR POOL, CITY BUS, OR LET HIM RIDE HIS BIKE.

  7. well they have [well usually have] cameras in the bus and the bus driver obviosly isn't gonna let him leave with someone if he came on alone. i think it could be a good expereince. if i was him i would think it was kinda cool plus he is eleven he should be alright. usually 11 year olds are more mature than they act around there parents.
