My 11 year old daughter wears a 38D and has been complaining that her chest feels heavy and that her back hurts. She was a very active child and was well on the way in her gymnastics but since her breast has grown so much, she does not want to do anything but sit. I started speaking with her doctor about this but he made me feel like a terrible mom for even suggesting that perhaps surgery might assist her, which left me afraid of asking any doctor any questions.

If she does have a breast reduction, would her chest remain small or would they grow when she grows?

Should I wait and hope that her body size catches up with the size of her b*****s? She is really upset and has been asking me to do something. I don't really kmow what to do. I am really very confused.

  1. If it is causing her discomfort surgery is the answer. What a terrible pain to have to endure at such a young age not to mention the attention she may recieve from the wrong types of guys.

  2. I really would recommend getting her fitted for a bra that will support her b*****s better, get a new doctor and ask them for some options, I personally would not be recommending surgery for an 11yr old, I had big b*****s also at a young age and was very selfconcious of them at the time but then I grew some more and then all my friends finally started to develop and it all seemed not so bad.   If your daughter is overweight as well it would seem worse so you need to keep her active maybe a different sport instead of gymnastics...but really a good bra goes along way in supporting b*****s.

  3. Well I think you're out of your mind for suggesting this. I can almost guarantee you the with time, when she's a bit older and actually going through the puberty process; her body WILL catch up with her b*****s. Surgery is definitely not the answer at such a young age. She hasn't even hit puberty! Get her a nice fitting bra. While she's in pain, she will eventually get use to it. It might be growing pain......

Please, please... do NOT get her surgery. That is horrible. Seriously.

  4. The first thing I would do is get a second and possibly third opinion.  She may benefit from a breast reduction, But may not be able to get one until she is finished growing.  My doctor told my that happens about 5 years after your first period.  You could talk to a plastic surgeon, or even an orthopedist.  Maybe there is some sort of back support she could wear under her clothes.  I know they have them for pregnant women.

  5. not to be evil... put her on a diet and she ll feel good bout herself and her b***s... theyll srink too.

  6. I think you should wait til she is done growing (usually around 13 years old). In the mean time take her to a good store that specializes in bra fittings. They can make sure she is wearing the proper size bra and help minimize pains in her back. She isn't mature enough to decide if she wants a breast reduction. When she is older make sure you do the research and that she is fully informed so she can help make the decision. A good doctor won't do the surgery if she doesn't fully understand and agree with the decision.

  7. If she's 11 and already a D she is going to have back pain.  I would talk to her about that first before deciding she needs surgery.

If she brought it up to you, her back must really hurt and a reduction WILL help her back pain.  Doctors usually do not operate on someone so young HOWEVER there ARE exceptions!  I know a lot of 15 year olds who have had reductions.

I would talk to a doctor about this and get his advice.  With a 38 band size, she does sound a bit overweight for an 11 year old.  She should work out and try to lose the weight first.

Is she in the correct bra size?  I would also get her sized at Nordstroms JCPenneys or Sears (NOT victoria secret).

  8. Don't doubt your instincts and her word!

Poor girl sounds like she is really having problems, 38D - that is a very large and heavy chest for an 11 year old!

She needs a reduction for sure I believe - help her out mummy!

But wait! - is she very overweight? - that would make a difference to how the surgeon views her case - is she?

  9. Firstly, you need a new doctor :) He should've shown you reasons why that is not a good idea. Secondly, I think she does need surgery. The extra weight on her chest is going to lead to severe back problems. Talk with doctors that are willing to help you address this issue, the take the best course of action from there.

  10. She does have large b*****s, especially for a young girl.  However, at 11 she is still growing.  I would definitely consider a reduction, but would wait until she is at a more mature age and has stopped growing.  Is she at a healthy weight?  That could be a factor also.

Your doctor shouldn't have made you feel that way.  See if you can find a female doctor and be straight with her.  Ask her what you could do in the meantime so your daughter feels more comfortable.  Perhaps a different bra would help also.

I understand where your daughter is coming from.  I am a 38 DD.  I have always thought about getting a reduction.  But I would wait until she is older.

    Good luck!

  11. Find a new doctor. preferably a paediatrician. This needs to be assessed if she is in pain

  12. Honey, there is not a doctor alive who will do a breast reduction on a 11 year old (unless he is a back alley surgeon).  Besides you dont want to teach your daughter that plastic surgery is a solution.

All b*****s are is fatty tissue.  She needs to exercise and loose weight.  Pushups are good for the chest.

I also had large b*****s (40 D) when I was 12.  I lost weight and they shrank.  Now I am a 36 C.  Help her get on a fitness program, that is all she needs.

  13. If your doctor is not listening to you it time for a new doctor. He's suppose to be listerin to your concerns.

  14. a 38D is a big size for ANY grown woman, no matter how small or large she may be. I would get a reduction, to a comfertable size. I would say a B. Her chest would remain small, because a breast reduction takes out cells that grow as we grow, so with those cells gone, they can't grow.

I would do it, because not only could this cause her back, shoulder, and posture issues. But many social issues in school. By Jr. High and High School, boys could be teasing her, making rude comments--she will also grow very self-consciece about them. (quitting gymnastics).
