117th edition of Argentina Polo Open Championship to kick off on November 20th
World’s famous and old Polo Championship ‘Campenato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movister, which is also known as ‘Argentina Polo Open Championship’ is just a week far away at the calendar. The 117th edition of ‘Campenato Argentino
Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movister’ is starting from November 20 at the ‘Palermo’ the premises of Association of Polo Argentina. This is most significant club level polo championship in the world.
‘The Campenato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movister, the Spanish words used for ‘Argentina Polo Open Championship’ is world’s greatest and famous high handicap tournament.
This event firstly was played in the year of 1893 at Catedral De Polo in Palermo Barrio in Buenos Aires, city of Argentina. From the years of 1893 to 1923, this was named as River Plate Polo Championship. This polo championship is usually played among the
teams having 28 to 40 handicaps in the national ranking.
Argentina Polo Association (AAP) is the organiser of the event which is also known as ‘Asociacion Argentina De Polo’. Coronel Suarez is the club which reigned over this sport in the past as it won Argentina Polo Open Championship for 25 times, which is a
record in the history of the game.
The 117th edition of ‘Campenato Argentino Abierto De Polo Del Bicentenario Movister’ has been presented by the Argentina Polo Association on November 12, 2010 at Palermo in the presence of eight best teams. The officials of the association, journalists,
renowned polo players and people belonging to other walks of life participated in the presentation ceremony.
Head of the Argentina Polo Association (AAP), Luis Lalor presented the schedule of the tournament and briefed the attendants regarding the event. Luis describing the teams said that some eight teams would participate in the Palermo with a sum of 285 goals.
An average of 36 goals handicap per foursome is superlative gesture for the importance of Argentinean Polo.
Luis analysing the new rules said that the aim of the new rules is to make the matches more entertaining and delighting for viewing audience; however, the pattern of quietness is not finished thus far. He maintained that there are very good matches with
new rules, while the remaining rules would also be settled with the passage of time.
Captain of the Ellerstina foursome, Pieres Facundo, who is also the ‘Best Polo Player’ in Triple Crown so far outlined that they would definitely perform well in the tournament, adding they have to play three complicated matches in the event as well. Facundo
also received awards in Tortugas and Hurlingham events.
Commenting on the team’s performance, Facundo stated that the morale of the team is very high this time and they are eyeing at the Triple Crown. They are better compared to the past and would attempt to chase the victory, as they could not acquire in last
three chances.
David Stirling of La Dolfina, who is currently the champion of Argentina speaking on the occasion, said that their foursome with the joining of Adolfo Cambiaso improved a lot and would deliver outstanding results in the upcoming event. It is pertinent to
mention here that Adolfo Cambiaso is currently the number one player in the world. He further said that they could make changes in the foursome, as Palermo is very crucial competition.
Another player of La-Aguada BMW, Novillo Astrada agreed with the new rules and changes; however, it would take time to adjust.
The eight teams, which are going to participate in the historic event, are Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra, La Dolfina Peugeot, Chapa Uno Hope Funds, Pilara Piaget, Sao Jose Audi, La Aguada BMW, Indios Chapaleufu II Cardon and Alegría Air France.
