Okay so I picked my daughter up from daycare yesterday & one of the staff told me that my daughter was biting her wrist (enough that it broke the skin in 2 spots!!)

we had a well check apt last night so of course I asked her ped about it & she said its pretty normal but well Ive never exactly seen baby's biting themselves before!! is this true-that its pretty normal? Does anyone else's baby bite them self & if so how do you make them stop?

she's never done it around me although she does occasionally bite on her fingers & such

  1. I've never known a child to do that but I bet it's seen with a lot of kids. There seriously isn't anything you can do I guess eventually she'll forget about doing it or one day bite herself hard enough where it will hurt and she'll stop.

  2. Well honestly if she had never done it before and the bites were enough to break the skin I would definatley look into if she was really biting herself. My younger cousin when to a daycare where older kids had been biting him and hitting him and the staff did nothing so that he would not leave (along with their yearly pay) It wasn't until they looked at the size of the bite wounds that they realized that his teeth were not big enough. As for the tantrums I don't know why they would escalate like that, unless something important (or at least she thought was important ) was being denied to her

  3. Yeah it is pretty normal. My boyfriends niece who I have grown very close to has been biting herself for a while now she will be 2 in about a week. She also bites others and other things like chairs and stuff. She also hits a good bit. Terrible twos starts early. But it is normal you just need to find ways to discipline. I think it is a way for attention.

  4. Unfortunately it is normally, my baby use to hit herself.  This is just a phase she is going through before long she will learn that it hurts if she bites herself and she will stop on her own.  Don't worry too much a bout it

  5. It could be that she is "exploring" her teeth. I remember when I was little I would grind my teeth together. I was always grinding and biting to see what it felt like.

  6. My baby scratches herself alot and digs in her skin. Sometimes until it bleeds. My doctor said she will grow out of it. Babies have crazy habits that they will eventually grow out of. If it's so bad that she's biting her skin off her wrists, I'd put something around her wrists to keep her from hurting herself.

  7. My daughter did that maybe twice, she was that age or maybe a little bit older.  I don't think there was any specific reason for it at the time, and it wasn't a common ongoing thing, so I never had to really worry about it.  She would also suck on her wrist and would turn it red just like a hicky.

  8. That is caused by extreme frustration from not getting what she needs. Take her out of the day care center.
