I know this is going to sound a little stupid but I am taking my baby swimming for the first time tomorrow. I know there are the obvious things that I need to take like swim nappies and stuff for afterwards but will I need to give her a bath when I get her home to wash the chlorine off or will she be ok till the next day?

I'm also really worried about getting her dressed afterwards because when I give her a bath at home, she goes absolutely bananas when I get her out and cries and cries and cries. does anyone have any tips that might help in this situation?

Thanks

  1. I guess people think its too young because the baby is still so small and pretty much still needs you for everything.  I have a 15 week old and I personally wouldn't take her swimming but I feel to each there own.  My pediatrician agrees that swimming should be done at a little later age.  At least after the 6 month check up and immunizations.  Also my daughter has really sensitive skin and I am pretty sure the chlorine will only cause her to have another horrible eczema flare up.  Make sure you have something for your child's ears since babies are succeptable to ear infections and make sure that you moisturize and use sunblock/sunscreen if in the sun.  The main thing is that you both enjoys yourself and be safe!

  2. I took my son swimming with me at the YMCA when he was that age--he LOVED it!

I would suggest "bathing" your baby afterwards tho--the chlorine (and other stuff found in a pool) in the pool can be a bit harsh on baby skin.  I would also put on a bit of lotion on your baby as well--chemicals can be drying to the skin.

I'm not sure about the crying thing--perhaps have a favorite toy or blankie available when it's time to get out of the pool?

    Good luck and have fun!!

  3. Sunscreen for babies....they also make a floatie thing that you can put them in that has an awning over it so you can put them in the pool and sheild them from the sun!  Dunno if a 3 month old is big enough for this yet or not!  If you have a bumbo chair (im thinking thats what its called) and there is a step with very very shallow water....you could put the bumbo on the step and sit!  I personally wouldnt take my baby swimming at that age but who am I to say no?  Def hope your going to a private pool!

  4. Maybe you should take her when shes a bit older and calm.

Get her some floaties too and make sure you bring some lotion to hydrate her body.

    Here answer mine please.

  5. There is nothing wrong with taking your 12 week old swimming- However there are some things you need to take into consideration, and be cautious about.

    * Make sure your baby is in a Baby Flotation Device- Next, make sure you have him/her a float that is specifically for babies, and make sure it has a top on it so the Sun won't glare down.

    * Make sure you put Sunscreen on your little one. Make sure it is a HIGH spf ( 50 or Higher)

    * Make sure you are right by your babies side at ALL times- Do NOT let the baby be alone in the float for any amount of time. Stay RIGHT by him.

    * Lastly- Dont stay in the pool to long. 30 minutes is plenty long enough and No more.

    * Yes, you should give him/her a bath when you get home. The Cholrine from the Pool needs to be washed off when you get home.

And, please dont let theses RUDE people tell you taking your baby swimming is horrible. You just have to take precautions!!!!

    HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE!!!!!!

  6. I personally would not take my 12 week old swimming. Actually we took my son, who is the same age, to a pool party and we let him get his little bottom wet but then we just sat with him in the shade in his bouncy seat for the rest of the time.

I used to have a terrible time with bathtime as well but he finally go to where he is liking them now.  I am sorry...it does get better =)

  7. I think a 12-week old baby is way 2 young 2 b taken  swimming

  8. 12 weeks is way to early to be taking a small baby swimming. You shouldn't be swimming till baby is 6 months old.
