I have a cat who is around 12 years old. She has been very lathargic and not herself lately. I looked her over this morning and noticed that she has an abstest or sore on her gum line. With 2 other cats I do not know if she is still able to eat or not. Is there anything over the counter I can try before we go to the vet?

  1. no.  There is nothing OTC that you can use to treat a sore of unknown origin.  Since you have no idea what you are treating, you can't possibly be sure you are doing the right thing.

Your kitty is suffering, please, do the humane thing and spend the $20-30 for a professional opinion and get it taken care of.

  2. It could be cancer, go to the vet. Calicivirus can also cause sores, but as your cat is up in years, it's not likely.

  3. not that i know of. You dont want to wait seeing a vet when this might be a tumor or cancerous thing. Dont wait, go to the vet.
