12 year old daughter periods, pads and tampons?

My 12 year old neice has lived with me for all her life and she just thinks i am her real mum. She shares everything with me and told me 2 days ago she started her periods. I showed her how to use pads but she is really wanting to use tampons i bought her some and she said she wanted me to put them in for her but i said no the instructions are very clear Ella just follow what it says. She is now ignoring me and when i went to wash her hair in the bath this morn she screamed at me that she wants me to give her, her bikini if i want to go in. She never has minded before me seeing her naked but i think i have really upset her. What can i do to make her know that i love her but she needs to learn to do it herself and that she doesnt have to hide away from me.

explain to her the importance that her body is private and that it's special.

I think 12 is old enough to wash your own hair.

She's just more clear with her body now. Since she started her period, she is more embarrassed than anything. Just tell her that you don't want to touch her private parts because her body is very special.

She needs to wash her own hair at 12 no matter how long it is, or how is she going to manage on school trips? If she can't manage it then it should be cut to a length she can manage.

I'm with you - you don't put tampons in for someone else, it's just too intimate, and also I don't think anyone could relax for that! She needs to go practice in the bathroom.

well im suprised you havent realized but she as at a point where she wants privacy and since this whole peroid thing started up she is going to be more self concious about her self...and if she is dat young i definately suggest pads seeing the risks wit tampons and her inexpierence......about the whole hair thing i suggest washing it in the sink or something or a haircut....
