12-year-old schoolboy Jacque Chomiw beats Stephen Lee in a charity match – Snooker news
Jacque Chomiw, a 12-year-old schoolboy, has defeated Britain’s top snooker professional, Stephen Lee, in a charity exhibition one-frame shootout match on Saturday at the 147 Snooker Club.
The kid pushed the former world number five, Lee, all the way and then finally trumped him on a re-spotted black ball.
At the start of the frame, many chances were squandered with the balls all over the table. However, it was the Commonweal pupil, Chomiw, who forced a chance from his opponent and knocked in a modest break of 28. Lee clawed back and went in front without
doing anything outstanding but he failed to kill the match and brought the kid back on the table.
Chomiw showed a great temperament and rolled in the pink and black to ensure the match goes down to a re-spotted black. Lee attempted a full-length double but missed it and left a tricky pot into the centre. However, Chomiw held his nerves and successfully
dropped it in to clinch a memorable win.
Lee also played with nine other players at the charity event, which was organised by Karl Paul, who is a local business partner of Dangly Carrot Marketing Solutions.
Paul told in the post-match presentation party that charity has always been very close to his heart especially since he lost his son Oscar in July 2010.
Paul said, “Our family and friends have been raising money for the charity for the past year and when I heard of the business challenge it seemed the natural thing to do. Since losing our son we have wanted to do what we can to help others and to give something
back to those who helped us. As a whole the evening was a great success and we managed to raise £1,305 for the charity as well as everyone involved having fun.”
He also thanked everyone who participated in the event.
“I would like to thank Stephen for his time, all who attended and played and United Radio Cars, Domino’s, Snookeru.com, Stuart Hindon and Corinne Paul for their support,” said Paul.
