Question:

12 year old w/ Budha Belly?

Hi there. I am worried about my little brother. He is 12 years old and weighs about 107 lbs. He is also about 4'9" (I myself am 5'0 and 100 lbs).

He fences and swims. Because of this he has very muscular legs and arms, but he still has a bit of a belly. I've treid everything from exercise to eating healthier but nothing seems to get rid of his belly.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. He's 12.  Just getting into puberty.  Before too long he'll have a growth spurt and the belly will go away.

  2. a course of antibiotics may have killed the good flora in his digestive tract.  if not antibiotics other causes may be the influence.  pro-biotics can be purchased, or yogurt.  stay away from white foods..sugars, starchs, carbonated drinks...they all feed the yeast that can cause this condition of a budha belly.

  3. actually that is normal. i dont think his tummy is THAT big.

  4. It's probably baby fat and he will lose it as he gets into his teenage years. A lot of boys have it.

  5. He needs to do a combination of exercise and diet. If he drinks sodas and stuff like that, cut it off completely. He should only be eating fruits and veggies but not many processed foods. He'll eventually lose the belly. If not now, as he grows up. Just make sure he stays the same weight so while he grows, his belly won't be so "Buddha-like".

  6. I think a diet wouldn't hurt.

  7. actually once your 11 its not baby fat anymore... maybe he has wormes... scarry!

  8. Baby fat.  Leave him alone.  He's not through growing and developing his final body form.

Sounds like he is doing everything right so far.  Let nature take it's course.  Don't want him looking too buff, or he'll have premature woman problems.
