This seems like a violation of her civil rights. It's a public school, not a private one. School could twist the "distraction" clause to include speech or any number of other things too if they wished. Could definitely go too far. It's still her body, under her parent's jurisdiction, she has the right to dye, pierce or tattoo any portion she wishes.

Thoughts?

  1. I think that is stupid. Piercings and hair coloring etc. are all a form of self expression and just experimenting to find out who you really are. She dyed hers for a good reason and the school shouldn't have punished her for it. My school never did anything to stop me. I have piercings and tattoos. I tried different colored streaks in my hair too. One teacher even said to me "show my yours and I'll show you mine" when he knew I got a tattoo. Schools shouldn't be able to take away that right.

  2. I think thats sweet that she did that for her dad. Yeah, I agree its her body she can do what she wants. But if I were her I wouldn't dye it completely pink, maybe just streaks of pink or something.

  3. hm... It's really stupid.

  4. That is very messed up.

If someone passes away and you want to do ANYTHING to your own personal body in memory of them ( hair dying, tatoos....etc. ), you should be able to do that. What did her mommy say about that... If I was a parent I would've made that school a BIG HUGE scene. you know? good question, i found that story interesting.

  5. Good.  You wouldn't want your kids to grow up in an education system that encouraged that sort of weird behaviour.  Schools should give a moral and social lead, and instill the concepts of dignity and proportion.

  6. That's where our fears have driven us.  Some schools have suspended little kids for toy guns and nail files.  Lets face it, they see long dark coats behind every set of eyes.

  7. well at my school almost every other person has crazy colored hair. the administration just gives us a warning like "it better be out in 2 weeks or you have detention" i think that's way better than getting suspended. that girl's school is totally unfair and just stupid they should've just gave her a warning cause the color eventually comes out and it's not distracting!

  8. What color did she dye it?  Oh yeah PINK!!!!!!  Not a smart thing. Teachers have enough of a problem trying to maintain kids in school already, her dying the hair wasn't the problem, it was the color she chose.  Yes, send her home. Obviously, this is distracting, and look an issue has been made of it.  Schools have rules for a reason, quit trying to bend all the rules, look at the mess they are in already. Kids are out of control.

  9. I get upset when schools do this its hard enough to get our kids interested in education and when schools pull this out it makes kids even more bitter.Times change kids arent the same as the rules were twenty yrs ago.

I also was upset when the boy in kindergarten was thrown out because of his mohawk are you serious?

keep knives and bullies out and dont worry with hair so much.

  10. They are soooo critical. Its public school and they feel its a "distraction" you can wear whatever frikkin color in your hair you want they just want it to be a distraction to other children becasue they think it makes the school look bad. Some people need to pull the stick out of their a$s.

  11. That's really stupid. If that's a distraction, they should ban any clothes that have color and make them all wear black and white.

She should be able to dye her hair any d**n color she wants.

  12. thats wrecked!!!

it was in honor of her dad!!!

    grr. im mad now.

  13. i hope she sues and wins enough to set up a foundation in her father's name

  14. I do see why she did it, but she dyed here hair that color before and they told her not to do it again. It would be considered a distraction cause if the girl sitting in front of you has bright pink hair its gonna be kind of hard not to look at.  Also public schools have rules and they have been getting stricter. At all the public school in my county you have to be within the dress code.

  15. No 12 yr old girl should be allowed to dye their any color, nevermind pink. Good for the school for suspending her. She sounds trashy and low class.

  16. I 100% agree with you. I have been following this story for a few days and I have come to believe that it is a violation of her civil rights. According to the united states constitution, amendment 14 states that no one can take away anybodies life, liberty, or property away from them. It seems to me that the school is forcing her to dispose of her property (her hair) that represents her liberty of fighting cancer (which is why she died her hair pink.) I think that she is doing the right thing and that her dad is cheering her on from heaven (he died from cancer.)

The school should not be able to do this. They have no right to. Whats next? Will they start suspending kids because they wear tye dye or will the start doing so to kids that wear alot of jewelry. I think that the power of choice to express their own individuality  should be left will the student, not the school management. Just to let everyone know, according to a forum her step father posted on, she will be going back to school on monday wth her pink hair. God bless this girl.

  17. there is a lot of cruelty in this world.

  18. strange question! don't see why can't dye her hair.....**** school!!

  19. dats screwed up

  20. Seems a strange way to remember her father.

  21. Yep, definately a violation of her rights.

I'm not so sure about the color being connected with her father's death, i hate to say this but it kinda sounds like she just wants pink hair... ofcourse idk...

  22. i think that they should worry more about test scores etc and less on what people have as there hair color, cause that is down right stupid then people wonder why America is getting bad cause of c**p like this
