120 euro withheld for painting in student accommodation?

I just recently received my deposit back from having lived in a student apartment with 120 euro having been deducted for painting...that would be 580 for the whole apartment (ie between the 4 people that lived there). The apartment was dirty when we moved in with lots of short cuts in painting and cleaning evident. We made an oral and written complaint to the landlord. What rights do we have? Any painting that needed to be done was only normal wear and tear, we were actually 4 really clean girls.

Help please?!

The  web site  below suggests that tenants have some responsibility for internal maintenance.Your situation seems to be unclear, but the deposit rules would seem to be in your favour.

In the US you would have photos of the shoddy paint job when you moved in. Stick together and follow through on the complaints.
