12Bet.com UK championship 2010, which is taking place at the International Centre Telford, started on 4th of December 2010, More than thirty world famous snooker players are participating in the event. It is the world’s second most important ranking
tournament.
The round two which will eventually lead to the quarter-finals of the tournament has started after a very exciting round one.
Ding Junhui the defending champion is facing Mark Allen in the second round, best of 17 frames. Stephen Maguire faces Mark Sellby whereas the tournament’s favourite John Higgins will face Graeme Dott. John Higgins is doing well in the tournament as he made
his comeback from a 6 month ban imposed on him due to allegations of betting.
The format of the tournament consists of 16 matches in round one, best of 17 frames each. The winner of each match will move onto the second round. Round two will consist of eight matches that will lead to four quarter finals between 8 and 9th
of December.
World famous players such as Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ding Junhui, Stephen Maguire, John Higgins, Mark Williams and Stephen Hendry are contesting for the top spot, which has a prize money of 100,000 pounds along with some fresh and talented players.
The tournament has already seen some fierce battles, as John Higgins and Stephen Lee levelled up with 4-4, but in the end Higgins made a good come back and won the matches 9-6. These were the first matches Higgins played after the ban and he produced a very
fine performance consisting of two centuries and seven breaks of a score over 50.
Another very interesting match in the tournament so far, was being played between Neil Robertson of Australia and Rory McLeod of England. In the match Robertson claimed the victory by knocking Rory out by 9-1. Australia might not be doing great against England
in the Ashes but here in Telford, Robertson has upheld the nation’s pride.
A match that took the audience’s breath away was played between Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry. They are old rivals on the snooker table and this time Stephen Hendry, who is winner of the championship five times, won the battle, knocking Jimmy White out
of the tournament 9-8. No doubt, it was a tough and well fought match between the two.
Four time 12Bet.com UK championship winner, Ronnie O’Sullivan, who was one of the favourites for this tournament looked a little uncomfortable and out of shape in his round-one match against Stuart Bingham.
As Stuart fought back and gave Ronnie a tough time on the table, the match was drawn 4-4. Later-on Stuart Bingham made a great come back and took O’Sullivan by surprise, when he made his way to round two. Beating three time champion of this tournament 9-6,
Bingham faces Marco Fu in round two.
A very exciting and entertaining round of quarter-finals awaits the players, who make their way through to round two. The two semi-finals of the tournament will take place on 10 and 11th of December 2010, respectively.
12Bet.com UK championship’s final will be played on the 12th of December, but this tournament has yet to offer so much excitement and matches full of tussle between old foes and friends alike.
