12th Bridgestone Invitational - The World Series of Golf about to begin
80 players from throughout the world are gathering at the Firestone Country Club to compete for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational title from 3 to 8 August 2010. This venue will host its 11th event thus far. Before the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational began, the course was home to the World Series of Golf. The only exception came in 2002 when the event was hosted by the Sahalee Country Club just outside of Seattle, Washington.
The course is divided into south and north sections. The south course stretches to 7400 yards with Par70. It was initially designed by Bert Way but was later renovated by Robert Trent Jones. The course features creeping bent grass on tee boxes, fairways, and greens indicating that the greens are smooth to play on.
Bridgestone Invitational has a certain criteria for the players to make a cut. Either the player has to be part of a Ryder Cup team or he should be ranked in the Top 50 Official World Golf Rankings 14 days before the start of the event. Otherwise, he can make it to the event if the player wins a worldwide event with OWGR field strength of 100 points.
The global golf summit will include11 players are from England, 7 from Australia, 5 from Sweden, 3 from Spain, 3 from Japan, 2 from Italy, 2 from South Korea, 2 from Northern Ireland, 1 from Ireland, 1 from Canada, 1 from Colombia, 1 from Denmark, 1 from Fiji, 1 from France, 1 from Germany, 1 from Scotland and 1 from Wales.
Moreover, 23 players will be making their debut in this event. South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen is the first one who recently won the British Open Championship. Ricky Fowler, the FedEx Cup winner along with Ryo Ishikawa will make it to the tournament for the first time as well.
The Bridgestone Invitational is the center of attraction for the strongest players around the world. Every year Akron welcomes professionals to come and win $8500, 000. However, the real winner is the charities that are benefitted from it. The Bridgestone Invitational donates approximately $800,000 every year throughout Northeast Ohio.
Coming to the past winners, Tiger Woods was the winner of the title in 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2001, 2000 and 1999.This makes an altogether of seven victories; however this year’s betting previews are against this notion. According to experts, this year’s victory is certainly not in the bag for Tiger. They account this statement to the past performances of the player throughout the season and exclusively to his 23rd position in the 139th British Open 2010. If he could not win on the old course, he has no chances on the greens of the Firestone Country Club.
Moreover, Lee Westwood is also contending for the title in which he finished as a runner-up two years ago and 9th in 2009.It seems quite likely from his recent performances that the player is on fire since the time he heard the news that he had qualified for the event that was taking place at Firestone Country Club. According to Lee, this is his favorite course and this can be seen from his past record of finishing in the top 5’s.
The 12th WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is taking place at the firestone Country Club from 3rd August to 8th August 2010. The player who hits the maximum greens in regulation will be the winner of the event and for that one has to be good at his irons. Will that player be Lee Westwood, or Luke Donald who is superb with his irons?
