i have a water tank that has a 12v switch, i want to make a circute that will get that signal or normally close or normally open to a circuite then that circuite will turn on a 120 or 220 volts motor to pum the water, i have seen it before but i dont know how did it work,

i know many people will say the pressur bum will turn on or off the motor but i want to make or some body know the circute to make that signal from a 12v to activate 112 or 220 volt relay or circuite or what ever please i need help

  1. You can use a 12 volt relay to activate a 120 volt circuit. The voltage specification of a relay indicates the voltage needed to activate the relay, not the voltage it can switch.

It's hard to follow your question completely. When you say the water tank has a 12 volt switch, are you talking about a switch that can be turned on or off by flipping it? If so, then you could replace that switch with a two-pole 12 volt relay and use one pole to activate whatever that switch activates and the other pole to activate the motor.

Just be very careful with 120 volts. You probably should get someone knowledgeable to help you.

I've read your question a few times and I don't get the big picture. Is this switch a switch that is activated by water level and you want to turn the pump on when the water level is low? If that's it, then you need a 12 volt supply and a 12 volt relay. Connect the supply to the relay through the switch and use the switch's pole to control the pump. Insulate the 120 volt relay/pump wiring carefully.

Using a triac and/or optocoupler is a more elegant solution, but requires more expertise.
