Question:

13.5 degree Driver v's 3 Wood ???

Hi,

I just bought myself a Taylor Made R7 Draw 9* Driver... the club is ballistic!! I'm easily travelling over 250m and I’m having troubles keeping the ball on the fairway if the hole has a slight bend.

I was looking at getting a Taylor Made 3 wood as I’m not too happy with my current 3 wood... BUT I was thinking that I could be better off going for a 13.5 degree driver which would be better off the tee.

So, would I be better going for the 3-wood or the 13.5* Driver???

Cheers,

  1. You'll hit a 13.5* driver high in the air.  Sometimes you'll get the carry and sometimes you won't.  Get the 13.5* 3 wood.  That way if you have a dogleg to deal with you can either try cutting the corner with the driver or laying up in the middle of the dogleg with the 3 wood.

  2. 3 Wood. Learn to hit driver.

  3. A strong 3 wood has 13 deg and a normal one has 15. What you really need is a 2 wood a loft of about 11 deg yet the same Length of your driver. It will carry more with less roll.

Another option is to trade in you r7 draw for a standard r7 or burner. The added weight to the heel of your driver makes it turn over and roll more causing you to hit hit through the fairway. Try teeing it up high with a 9.5 deg normal driver and hit it light draw. A light draw has mild roll and great carry good luck!

  4. Matt --

The 13.5 Driver would be impossible to hit off the fairway.

    Get the three wood....

    Good Luck.

  5. 13 degree off the tee  16,  17  degree hibird in the fairway  still hitting same club . stuff 20, 22 hybird . add extra wedge lower scores . works

  6. I would deffinetly get the 3 wood.  The driver would be better off the tee but impossible off the fairway.  Learn to hit the 3 wood off the tee and get it.

  7. a driver has a longer shaft, which creates faster club head spead and will hit  with a higher ball flight.  I think that a 15* 3 wood is the way to go.

  8. If you already have the driver, get the three wood. Three woods are easier to hit, more versitile, and you are bound to make up strokes with a three wood. The 13.5 driver is meant for little ladies and old men who need some extra loft to get the ball out of the tee box. also you will never be able to hit the 13.5 driver off of the fairway or out of the rough. I would say don't use your driver if there isn't room for it to land but never take it out of your bag. Unless its a long par 4 or a par 5, three wood is good off of any tee.
