13.5* vs 15* Three Wood. Which is right for me?

I am a high hanidcapper (85/95 usually) who is looking to replace my 3 wood (currently 15*). I know what club I want, the Mizuno F50, now I just would like feedback on the diff. between 13.5* and 15*. I plan to use it on the fairway 95% of the time with possibly using it off the tee box once every 3 or four rounds. What have been your experiances? What should I do?

  1. Well 15 deg is just fine from the turf. Its all preference in how far you want to hit it. 13.5 from the turf will simply go farther and lower and obviously 15 deg will go shorter and higher.

But for the tee hands down 13.5 maybe even 12 deg.

  2. My advice to you would be get the 15 degree one and, if you are shooting in the nineties, leave your driver at home and use this off all the tee boxes, yes it will go a shorter distance but you improve your control and accuracy to a much higher degree. 90% of golfers use a driver when they shouldn't just because they are under the impression that that is what they should do. Just try it, you'll be surprised how much your scores start to come down.

  3. The 13.5 might be tough for you to get up in the air.  15 is more of a standard loft for a 3 wood and by getting more height (ie carry) you will probably hit it just as far as a 13.5 and more easily.  I am a 6.6 index and my 3 wood is 15 degrees.

  4. A couple of factors should go into this decision.  How much loft is on your driver? If it is 10 or more degrees the 15 is probably the correct loft.  Have you tested this club?  The lower lofted club will probably be harder to control.  Which club fits your distance gap better? If your driver goes 240 and your 5 wood 200 you want the 3 wood to be about 220 not 230. It is all about controlling your distance.  My driver is a 9 degree and my 3 wood is 15 degrees.  I play to an 8 handicap. You would most likely e better off with the 15.  Good Luck      P.S. Lower loft does not mean more distance.  If that were true the pros would be hitting a 1 degree driver not  8 or 9.  You may get more distance with a higher loft.  Try a demo.

  5. I think 13.5 is too low for a three wood for a high handicapper.  Driver should be 11 - 13 and 3 wood should be 15.

  6. It depends, some players are able to get a 13.5 up in the air, thus the 15 would not be necessary because the 13.5 goes further anyways (if hit right). Again, it depends on your preference.

  7. every answer telling you to dump driver , go with 3 wood correct . senir guy threw driver . 14 degree 3 wood . carry 5 wedges .
