13 Birthday Party! Help!

Hey Everyone,

I am turning 13 at the end of this month and I wanted to have a party. Now, this is what the plan is:

All of my guests come to my house for a formal sit-down dinner. I want it to be kind of fancy. Any tips? What dish should I ask my mom to make?

Then we would go to the mall and do a scavenger hunt. I would have my mom make out a list of random things that you could find in a mall. We would have 2 1/2 hours to do it. Each girl would also get $10.00 to spend on things that they like. Is this a good idea? Any suggestions?

And I was going to have a sleepover after that. Once again, any good sugestions or ideas for that?

This is a big birthday for me, and I want it to be so much fun for me and my friends! We absolutley LOVE to have a good time!

Thanks in advance!

  1. girl your 13. Throw more of a dance party. With loud music and stuff. Thats kinda kiddyish. and 10 dollars you could only but like a pack of pencils. At least 20 bucks. And if the girls are preppy and stuff then 30 cause those chlothes are expensive.

  2. I have a few ideas...

    1) Rent hotel rooms for you and your friends (only girls for sleepover...boys for any other party) and sleepover there. you can play hide and seek and stuff it's really fun (did it on a cruise ship so its a little different but still fun)...but play it only on the elevators and stairs.

    2) Have a dancing party at your house with boys and girls and then have the boys leave....the girls can sleepover!

    3) Don't do the formal dinner thing....you'll have time for that when  you're older! Just be a teen and have fun!

  3. dang u planned all that alone?! i'm 13 and all i do on my birthday is go out to eat.

  4. That sounds really good !

but I don't think it should be formal ,

becuse then they'd be wearing nice clothes then they have to go to the mall and run around .

  5. Yes, that sounds great, and you are a good part planner! The dinner idea is good, but i can't think if any formal foods! Make sure it is something everyone will like, not something strange. Maybe like chicken or pizza. For the mall, make like some time to shop for fun together, and then the other time for the scavenger hunt. That way, you can still hang out together at the mall. Make like 1 hour for going around stores together, and 1.5 hours for the scavenger hunt. I think this is a good idea, but do what you want! Also, I don't think $10 is enough, so you should say, bring your own money for spending, and we will give you an extra 10 or something. Or say, we will give you ten, but if you want more, you have to bring your own money. The sleepover is perfect. Get some movies, play games, dance around, talk, do nails/hair/makeup (if you're allowed, so get permission first!), and tell scary stories. Anything is fun with friends! Also, don't invite too many people! That will be too crowded. I suggest inviting at least 3 people, but no more than 10. I know how important this day is for you! I just turned 13 a couple months ago. My party was plain though. It was me and four friends, we saw a movie, went out to eat, and then came back to my house to hang a little bit. Your party seems like it will be amazing! Don't be too worried though, just relax and have fun, and be with friends. I am sure they will love your party, and happy birthday!!!

  6. How many people are you inviting? Your ideas sound great. It's pretty easy sometimes to get bored at a sleepover and thats when people start to get homesick so rent some scary movies or chick flicks to keep you occupied. If your having a really formal dinner you could try steak, mashed potatoes, and some other side. For desert you could just have cake or icecream later. It might even be a good idea to order a pizza to so if you guys get hungry later on into the night. Have some games or something. Pinatas are always fun no matter what your age. Truth or dare is also fun but it can get out of hand sometimes. haha.

  7. This is fancy, but I just turned 15 and got me and my friends ride on 15 Suzuki Hayabusas (I'm a guy)!

  8. Don't plan all that fancy stuff.

Go with the momment,  just hang out and party.

  9. $10 is to little my friend had that kind of a party and each person got $50 so I would give everyone more money.

  10. Not sure what your mom can make. If my daughter asked, I would make manicotti with garlic bread, Caesar salad, fruit/jello salad from a fancy mold, and a white chocolate cake with raspberry filling for dessert, served with Breyers or Haagen Daaz chocolate ice cream. Very formal seeming, especially on a white tablecloth with china, but still most of the girls coming over would like it. I might have my sons and husband and me dress in white shirts and black pants or possibly all black and serve like we're wait staff, and I'd have silver taper candles in my good crystal candlesticks.

Hmm...I might even serve them an appetizer first. Mozzarella sticks would be too obvious, but something yummy while they sit around the table eating.  And maybe fancy twisty breadsticks instead of garlic bread.

I'd also make up a special punch with Sprite and berry juice and I'd serve maraschino cherries on the drinks with toothpicks.

Okay...I'm having way too much fun with your party. :-)

The scavenger hunt at the mall: depends on how many girls you are having. $10 each could actually add up quickly. Are you close with your neighbors? For one of my birthday parties, my mom set up a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood and we had a blast dividing up into teams.

Another year, I had like 12 girls over for a full dinner and as that kind of blew my mom's budget, we did paper bag dramatics where we divided into three teams and each team had to make up a skit from the props in the paper grocery bags.

That was also an absolute riot.

If you have a digital video camera you could make a documentary or have each person on camera talking about their life at 12/13/14 -- however old they are now. If you save that one on the computer, trust me -- it will be an amazing time capsule when you're old like me.

My friends two years ahead of me had their 20th reunion and had a slide show of everyone's photos and videos-converted-to-DVDs that they'd taken in middle and high school and it was a total blast.

Those are my ideas. If your heart is set on the mall scavenger hunt (or on shopping), then I am sure that will be fun, but I don't have any particular ideas for that one.

Oh! For my 13th birthday, I don't even know what we ate -- pizza or something -- but my mom had a Mary Kay consultant come over and give a skin care class while we all did makeovers. That was awesome. Perhaps your mom knows someone not as clunky as Mary Kay, but Avon has some awesome stuff for teens.
