Question:

13 week old baby turning onto her side at night?

I have just started to put my baby in her own room at night. I hate it but we sadly can't fit a cot in our room and she is too big for her moses basket now. She is a very good sleeper and sleeps through the night but this morning when I went into her she had turned onto her side.

I am so scared that she will end up on her tummy and suffocate I am not sure what to do. Will she be ok if she keeps going onto her side? What can I do to prevent it?

  1. My 5 week old does this too! Go to the store and pick up a sleep positioner. You place it on the crib mattress and it will prevent the baby from turning on her back or side.

Here's a link to help you out.

Good luck and hope it helps!

  2. It's fine and normal.

  3. she'll be fine!  my son would only sleep on his side from 2-4 months or so!  then when he started rolling onto his tummy, it scared him awake and he cried until i came and turned him back onto his back!

  4. I put my little lady into a 0.5 tog pure cotton gro-bag and tuck her in firmly (using rolled up towels along the edge of the cot) with a thin cotton sheet to put a stop to the moving around and that did the trick for us.  It's important that the grobag and sheet are 100% cotton to prevent the risk of cot-death from overheating but youre right to look for a solution.

  5. My doc says this is okay, just keep putting her down on her back. I think what helped us with peace of mind is to roll up nursing blankets and wedge them under our son's armpits and little under his back. It harder to roll over when you've got little hills holding you in. Just make sure you put them low, under the arms, not near her face.

  6. She will be just fine.  There is nothing you can do to prevent it.  My son started sleeping on his side around 4 months.  I asked my doctor about this, and she said to let him sleep on his side if he chooses.  You can lay them back on their back..... but chances are they are just going to go back to there side.  Don't worry about it..... there is nothing you can do except just make sure her crib is safe and free of any suffocation hazards.
