13 year old, babysitting?

I need some extra cash for school clothes and supplies because my parents are on a really tight budget. They said i could try "craigs list" and put myself on there, but from what i see its impossible because the other people posting ads for babysitting are like 30 years old, already have children of their own, tons of experience, and have all this stuff in child care.

I have 4 younger brothers (2,5,7,7) and would have to take care of them almost everyday after school so i know what its like, but come on, no one is going to take a 13 year old seriously.

is there anything i can do?

  1. You could try talking to all of you neighbors & asking if they have any odd chores they need done. Also ask them to spread the word about you babysitting, that way you are not just a stranger posting an ad. Anytime one of the neighborhood kids comes to my door asking to earn money, I am impressed that they are not just sitting on the computer or in fron tof the tv... I always find something I can use help with...I think its great you are trying to earn your own money for school stuff.... Good Luck to you!!!!!!!

  2. I wouldnt count on anything solid from that, especially if you've never taken a baby sitting class from the red cross or whatever. It's worth a shot though.

I know exactly how you feel, money was really tight this year so around may I started doing more chores and mowing the lawn etc* to make some more money. I would stick with maybe putting ads up around your own neighborhood or offering to babysit someone you already know. OR even a lemonade stand if you're on a busy street. Lol, good luckk=)

  3. A responsible 13 year old babysitter is like music to a mom's ears! Are you kidding... 13 is the best for babysitting! You have energy and actually play with the kids! I would suggest keeping your rates very reasonable and making a flier to give out to the neighbors (lots and lots). List all your qualities... you have many that older people don't have: flexible schedule, energy, affordable, etc.  Once school starts, go into the office at an elementary school and see if they have a bulletin you could put an ad in. Talk to your friends parents to help you spread the word! Good luck!

Good luck and don't get discouraged!

  4. Sorry but in my opinion I think your to young in the first place : /

  5. Maybe you could ask one of the babysitters if they need some extra help with one or two of the kids, and you could go there and help her out a little.

Or you could post an ad for dog walking and you could walk some local dogs for money.

You could also ask your parents to have a yard sale to sell some of the things you have grown out of or dont use anymore.

I hope you find something that works :)
