I have 4 children under 13. 1 child is always going against the rules. She is constantly lying, cheating, stealing and manipilating. This has been going on for at least 7 years now and it is getting much worse. Does anyone have advice about a group home in rhode island? She is out of control and at this point it is only hurting herself and the rest of my children by being at home. She also has been threatening bodily harm to the other kids. Eventually she is going to do so. This situation is a lot worse than this paragraph appears. There is to much defiant behavior to list.

  1. Take your child to a psychologist of therapist. Don't let this get that far. Hope everything works out. Good Luck.

  2. Is this child getting help from a doctor or psychologist? If not you need to get her in and get that started.

Basically you aren't gonna find a group home to accept her if you have no medical information for them.

Sounds like she needs some counseling - talk to the people at the local mental health center.

  3. Umm, actually before you think of sending her away, try these things...

    1. Talk to her

       A. Ask her if anything is going on in school

       B. Ask if you've done anything wrong in a parent

       C. (If you don't know what her friends are like, ask to see them)

        D. If none of that works, ground her...

        E. Maybe send her to counciling

    2. Think if your being to hard on her

    3. Try and spend some more time with her and only her

If none of these work...I don't know...but for me I think the worst possible thing to do, is to fight or send her away! I mean I would be devistated and crushed if you were talked about doing that to me...How would you feel?

    Hope this helps!_!_!_!

  4. have you tried taking her to a child psychologist or therapist?

It sounds like there are deeper issues and she needs extreme counseling!  Try calling your local family services department and see if they have any programs that can help you!

    Good Luck!

  5. Check with Teen Challenge. They should be able to refer you to an appropriate counselor or agency.

  6. alot of states have a scare them straight program were the teenagers go to prison for a day.  They live the life of a prisoner.  I know that it sounds drastic but believe it or not the kids are under constant surv.  and are usually in lock down.  they also get what they consider safe prisoners to talk to the kids.  You can call your local D.A. and see what they say.  Also if she is that bad call your local social worker and talk with them that is there job, to help trouble families.

  7. nanny 911

    or boot camp!!

  8. your first step could be either calling the child Dr for a referral to a child physcologist (and you could talk to them about what to do-maybe a group home)

or to your local parternership for children or social services. Social Services does more than just taking children out of abusive homes. They can help.

Best of luck. If you feel you need to put her in a home dont feel like your giving up your child-the best thing you can do is help in the best way you see.

  9. Have you considered counseling?  A group home is a big step.  Are you ready to give up on your child?  Do you think giving up on her is the answer?  I hope she is already in counseling and this is a last effort to save her and your family and not just the "easy" way out of parenting.

  10. If your child is threatening bodily harm to your other children then it is time to take her to a psychologist. You need to contact your daughters primary doctor who will then refer you to a counseling center. A group home is a last resort, not the first and admission is only possible through your child's psychologist. Once she is in therapy you can explain your concerns to the therapist and if the situation can not be remedied they will then choose another course of action such as a group home, day treatment or even psychiatric in patient care. Do not wait and take action immediately. God bless you!
