My daughter will soon be having her 13th birthday party. I'd like to surprise her with something fun. Any good decorating, gift or game ideas appropriate for this age group that emphasize her becoming a teen? Thanks :)

  1. guitar hero is a good game to play a b-day party movie night/sleepover makeovers are fun to a good gift would be a gift card so she can buy whatever she wants wherever she wants to

  2. maybe a pool party and you can get a tan out side

  3. There's lots you can do!

You can take her to a spa and do a mother and daughter day at the spa get your hair, make-up, manicures, and pedicures done and then out to lunch.  Being pampered in a way she never has will really have her feeling special.  Then taking her out afterward will let her show off how she looks!  You can go with her and if you want let her take her best friend, or just the two of you!

If there's a show she's been wanting to see, you can take her there and out to dinner, maybe rent a limo for the night and the family go.

Take her out to a nice restuarant, somewhere either she's never been and you think she would really like, or one of her favorite restuarants.

Or if you would like to do some fun parties at home, here are some ideas:

You can do a spa party. Do the girls' hair, make-up, manicures and pedicures. If not, have them pair up and do it for each other. Tell your friends to bring their favorite polish and flip flops so they don't ruin their pedicures. Then have lots of snacks and junk food, etc.

No matter what party you do, you can set up an ice cream bar. Get chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream and lots of toppings. Sprinkles, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and marachino cherries. Go to the dollar store and get those tall, plastic sundae glasses and everyone make their own sundaes. You can even get the bowls that are made out of waffle cones at the grocery store.

You can do a Hollywood Movie party. Get some red fabric and lay it at the entrance of your house and on both sides put some solar lights if you have them and your friends will be entering on the red carpet. Take their pictures as they're coming in.

Go to the dollar store and get some feathery boas, sunglasses, etc. Then at the craft store get some blank frames. You can get the boas at the craft store too. At the dollar store or Blockbuster, get those cardboard popcorn buckets and some popcorn and big boxes of movie candy. Rent your favorite movies.

Hang a white sheet somewhere in your house. You and your friends can pose with your boas and props and take pictures in front of the sheet. The sheet will block out any distractions behind you. Like when the stars stop on the red carpet in front of that white area and take pictures, you and your friends can pose and have fun.

At movie time, everyone gets their own popcorn bucket and pass around the candy! Tell your friends to bring their blankets and pillows to lounge out during the movie.

After the movie is the "after" party with the food and cake and ice cream. Have whatever food you like, whether it's pizza, a taco bar with all the toppings, etc, and cake and ice cream.

Then you and your friends can decorate those blank frames. Paint them, and at the craft store in the scrapbooking section they have tons of movie stickers, you can put them on there and then your friends have something to bring home from the party and put their favorite picture in.

You can also take advantage of the nice weather and do an outdoor party. Have a bbq with hamburgers and hot dogs and have the toppings too. Do tomatos and lettuce with ketchup for the burgers and mustard and saurkrut for the hot dogs. You can do baked beans and french fries too.

Then you can set up a volley ball net and play volleyball and badmitten.

    Have waterballoon fights.

Do relay races, potato sack races, three legged races, wheelbarrel races where one person stands and holds the other person's legs and you race to the finish line.

Then you can do a pie eating contest, but instead of pie, do whipped cream in a pie tin.

You can also get an inflatable kiddie pool and fill it with water, break into 2 teams and have a tug of war, the losing team ends up in the pool!

You can also do a sit down dinner party. Talk to your mom and either send out for food or with your mom, cook the meal from appetizers to dessert. Set the table in a formal manner from the cloth tablecloth to cloth napkins, etc and have a sit down dinner party with your friends.

Don't forget the pinata! Everyone likes candy and you can get one that fits a theme or just one you like at any party store.  In the same aisle you can find what's called Pinata filler and they are big bags of candy and things to put in there.  You can also add some of your own favorites to it too.

I hope some of these ideas helped and that you have a great party and a very Happy Birthday

  4. What a wonderful rite of passage!  Here are some ideas:

    1.  A formal tea for your daughter and some of her friends.  Find out if there is a place in your area that does "tea".  The girls get to wear elaborate hats, eat great food, and drink tea from dainty teacups.

    2.  Ice skating or roller skating, pizza, cupcakes.

    3.  Horseback riding, a picnic in the park, cake and ice cream at home.

    4.  Mall day:  make up at a great dept store; a trip to Claire's for earrings etc.; lunch at the food court; movies at the cineplex; dessert at the ice cream parlor.

    5.  Slumber party:  for a few close girlfriends, dinner out at their favorite restaurant; rented movies, snacks; gift bags of bath gels, nail polish, mascara etc.

    5.  Barbecue at home:  grilled hamburgers, chicken, sausages; chips, dip; salads; fruit basket; dancing to cd's; little white lights around along with votive candles etc.

    6.  Hawaiian luau:  decorate with tiki torches; grass mats; leis, have guests wear hawaiian gear; hire dancers; buffet to include barbecued pork, fruit salad, lomi lomi, green salad, potato salad, rolls, chips, etc.

  5. Depending upon how you feel about make up (and your budget) what if you got a couple of make up artists to come in and/or hair stylists and have a day of beauty for her  and her friends?  You can decorate the place like a beauty parlor and since young women are always experimenting with makeup (normally incorrectly for their age or skin type) they can learn from the pros to keep it simple and natural!  Their good bag can contain samples from the makeup artist, or basic fun stuff (hairbrush, nail polish, face lotion, chap sticks, etc;)  After they get their makeovers they can go do dinner at a more "grown up" resturant!  Have fun!
