  1. I was similar in size at that age and am now a 6'6'' 19 stone No 8,  still versatile and quick, so I'm told! for a average 30 something.

I started with lower body/legs  then moved onto upper body when advised to do so. Always consult your sports instructors and even your doctor. You'll be amazed at what people not in the game, can help you with.

  2. Hi mate. I would think the best way to improve your rugby skills is to enroll into a off-season coaching academy with your local senior club side. The best time to start developing senior players are at around 15-17 years old and most clubs have a youth program to help you improve your skills, almost like the football academies. Who knows, you might end up being signed up to the development team soon.

  3. just in case your careers don't take off lads.  stay in school and learn to spell.  god i hate text talk

  4. I think the most important thing about No.8 is their brain. They need to be able to read every situation on the rugby field. They need to be able to see the runners off the back of the scrum, the gaps in the line, spot the weak link to break through the gain line. Yes, fitness etc is important but theres no need running around the rugby pitch like a headless chicken.

i play no.8 and i think its one of the best positions on the pitch for versitility. Surging runs, tackles, and clearing out the rucks...its all fun fun fun! and im a girl!!

  5. yo im 14 and have been playing rugby for 6 yrs at lock and number 8. its gd that you have a lot of muscle and bulk but as your a back row player you need to have a lot of speed and NEED to be able to put big hits.

Hope this helps m8, gd luck.

  6. You sound the right build for a number 8 but if you want to improve just watch stupid amounts of videos on youtube and listen to pundits on rugby tv programmes.

That is so you can learn to read the game better and learn more about the different positions.

Also may I recommend www.rugbydump.com . It's a great site with awesome tries and huge tackles so you could have some inspiration.

  7. STEROIDS!!!!!!!

  8. As a no 8 you need to possess the following skills:

    1. Communication - The no.8 is the communicating channel between the scrum half and the forward pack in games and scrums. You need to be able to tell what's going on, what plays are happening etc etc.

    2. Agile - As a no.8 you will be required to run off scrums with the ball. Therefore you need to be able to get up and go without warning, as well as stay with the scrum half.

    3. Aware and quick reactivity - No.8s as well as flankers have to be aware of everything going on around them. You have to watch out for opposition runners off the scrums as well as watch for breaks, etc.

    4. Aggro - As well as all the above you need to take a lot of heavy hits, as you will be hit when running off scrums. You also need to have power, as if the scrum isn't going well, you'll be an extra hand.

Hope all the above helps you ;)
