ruby has started squatting whenever she pees. no matter what she is doing, she'll stop where she is and squat, then get up and continue on. is this normal? does it evince some sort of readiness to explore the potty? should i do something to support that? i know she is too young for real potty training, but should i be introducing something?

  1. I say you start teaching her some things about the potty now. That is one of the signs of readiness I was seeing in one of my mags..How exciting!!!!

    It's NOT to early either..

  2. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  3. sure why not?

  4. Some parents say you can potty train at a year old but my experience with my daughter was that she started waking with a dry diaper alittle before her second birthday.  She was very interested in the toilet and I wanted to build on that.  I researched and found a very safe and very sturdy stool with sides for the toilet so she could hold on the entire time.  http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corpor...

She felt comfortable and relaxed and she was excited about doing things on her own.  This stool made all the difference for her and she potty trained right away.  It helped to put toilet paper over the water to stop splashes for #2.  Hope this helps.

  5. I definately think you should start showing her where she needs to go potty.  If she is already starting to tell when she has to go now, you dont want to let that time pass and her continue to think that she needs a diaper.  i noticed that alot of parents rely on diapers just as much as the child.  it is a little frusterating when your out and they say potty and you have to stop what your doing to go evey 30mins, but it is so much better for kids to become independent and realize that they dont need it.  i wouldnt pressure her into anything because she is still very young but just sit her on her own potty seat about 30mins after she has something to drink and praise her for sitting there like a big girl and if she goes on the potty make sure that she knows how good that is, you can use stickers or snacks that she likes or a song.  I have 2 sons that I had my oldest potty trained by 22 months and my youngest potty trained by 16 months.  it is possible you just have to listen to your child or read there actions.

  6. you could try but i think she is still to young. good luck

  7. teach her the word thats what we did with my sister

  8. Give it a word...when ever she squats let her know it's pee pee (or what ever you are going to call it)...Then when she is ready to get on the potty the vocabulary word is already in place....

When mine went #2, I always told them they were stinky...once the speech was there, they would come tell me that they were "stinky - yuck" and then the transition to the potty was a breeze....

    Good luck....

  9. Go for it! My daughter does the same thing but isn't potty trained yet at 19 months old. Start by getting her a potty. Put her on it at bathtime and whenever you happen to be naked near the bathroom. Also, start changing her butt in the bathroom to help her associate that with going potty. Even if she doesn't stay on it for more than a few seconds, it'll help. Research potty training too, pull ups will give you a free dvd that is kinda cool, but pull ups are just like diapers, and my daughter thinks so too, so she won't try the potty with them, so our next step is to get some big girl underwear, lol. Just don't push her! Good luck!
