14 month old refuses to walk!

Has anyone had this problem? My 14 month old daughter just won't walk. She will take a few steps when she isn't paying attention and can stand perfectly without holding on to anything, even bounce up and down while standing! She pushes her babies in their stroller with no problem. She is also a huge monkey and climbs onto everything and out of anything you put her in. Had to quit using her walker at 10 months due to her climbing out of it! So I know physically there is really nothing wrong with her she just WON'T do it...any advice?

Everyone I run into ask if she walks and why she doesn't walk and blah blah blah. I am getting sick of it!

  1. tell him if he does not want to walk then you will not love him

  2. <---------- My son here was the same, and didn't walk until 16 months old! He also would walk with the aide of a walking toy, or someones hand, but as soon as you let go he would drop! He was just a late walker, as your daughter obviously is too. My other 2 were 13 and 14 months before they walked also, and apparently I was 24 months . . . . honestly. My parents thought I never would! I was just super lazy, lol.

So please don't worry, it will happen . . . and when you least expect it! She will be up and off. I know you are excited for it to happen, it will!

  3. If there is nothing physically wrong with her then mom... be patient with her.  I am sure she feels your anxiety at her not walking.  Things telegraph so easily from mom to baby.  You know how well you respond when you are pushed to do something you aren't ready to do.  She will walk, without help, when she's supposed to.

  4. She's not remotely late walking yet - you don't need to worry at all, especially as you say she CAN do it, she just chooses not to.

Mine didn't walk until eighteen months. Why would they - crawling was so much faster! They only really started to walk when they realised that the kids who could walk could carry things and move at the same time :)

  5. Aw Hun ...my twins were both late walking Kylie was 14 months and Thomas 18 months, I was 2 when i walked and my mum said it was because i simply didn't want to ..give her time once she starts she wont wanna stop !

    best of luck x

  6. Ok I had this problem with my daughter and there are several possible reasons. First of all is she being held all the time. Example when other people (perhaps the same people who ask why she doesn't walk) see her and say "ah isn't she cute" and immediatly pick her up and carry her around? she may not walk just because she wants to be carried. The easiest solution to this is , mean as it sounds, refuse to pick her up and carry her around. Force her to walk where she wants to ge. Within reason of course. The next reason may be she just is not ready to walk all the time yet. Usually if this is the case the child will crawl sometimes. Since there is nothing physically wrong with her and she crawls sometimes I don't know how much asking her pediatrician will help but you can always try it.

  7. Does she get held a lot? Maybe she prefers being carried. You might have to not pick her up as often even though its hard when she begs to be held.
