Question:

14 year old job in British Columbia, Canada?

I have my Social Insurance Number and it is 100% legal for me to work in Canada. I am an Honors student, on the principal's list (straight A's), and I don't look my age at all. Most people think I'm 16-17 years old. I am also very mature for my age.

I'm just wondering what you guys think my chances of getting a summer job are, and I also wouldn't mind some suggestions on where a good place to work would be. I have many stores (roughly 100, but quite a few I couldn't work at), etc. in my part of town and only my high school is near by. Even then only about 850 people go there). I also have a resume and cover letter ready.

PS: Stores include:

Walmart, Save On Foods, Tim Hortons, A & W, McDonalds, Taco Bells, Rogers Video, Movie Gallery, Dairy Queen, KFC, Shoppers Drug Mart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Starbucks, Booster Juice, Shoe Warehouse, etc.

Thanks!

Sarah

  1. Hi Sarah,

I'm in BC and we are so short of workers that you could get a job anywhere. There are tons of help wanted signs up. Just start knocking on doors and you'll have one in no time. Good luck.

  2. Then go and a job, There are a lot of retails shops every where. And they need young girls to work. But I think Starbucks prefer full time workers. Try Metrotown or maybe downtown. Good luck.

  3. Go around to the government or municipality office and put your resume in there. Having a high achievement in school I would think is a qualification we need at the government level why not try now. Or if you have some idea as what you want to do in the future see if there is anyone interested in letting you help out for the summer . Sometimes it pays to have experience not so much money value you will be building your own reputation which at the end usually works out to better money. Also helps you to make those tough decisions in school as to what Field or courses we need to take. You will find out at a young age if this is really what you want to do for the rest of your life. There are so many people out there doing a job they dislike because the money is good. I believe that to have a happy life you need to work at a job you enjoy as you will be doing it for a long time . I wish you lots of luck take care
