He loves architecture, he has come to work with me on several occasions and is a great filer and is organized. Hate to start him out in fast food, but may need to.

  1. grocery stores are great places for younger people to get started. You may start out as a bagger, stocker or a cart return person but the cashiers there can earn up to 25 dollars  an hour so if you stick with it you can move up in no time.

  2. I take it YOU must be the parent? Take him to the nearest office of Workforce Solutions -Alamo(Alamo Workforce).

Ask the Customer Service rep for an "Age of Consent" form. Fill it out, sign it and mail it to the address on it to Austin for a Work Permit. Under federal law,you have to be sixteen to work in most non farm jobs and since he's still in school,he can only work four hours a day.

While he's waiting for the permit, take him,his birth certificate, and Social Security card over to Department of Public Safety for an "Under 21 " ID card. The purpose of the permit is for him to submit a photo copy of it everytime he applies for work and keep doing it till he's sixteen. This is so that his future employer doesn't have the Department of Labor shut them down for using "child labor".

Click on "Register As Job Seeker".

Have him register for work with the state. List all job experience, desired job, desired pay, training, any and all certification. As he gets older, keep the file up to date with a listing of all jobs and what his duties were on each of these jobs to build up his resume that will be seen by employers all over Texas.

  3. He's so young, fast food may not even hire him....most places want the kids to be 16 so they can use knives and the grill.  He should look into dog walking, yard work, baby sitting or even being a personal assistant in someones home.  Best of luck!
