When a customer wants to withhold their number, he/she has to dial 141 before dialling the number.

Why do some companies reject withheld numbers?

How can rectify this problem, and still withhold my number?

(I use www.saynoto0870.com site)

Thanks

  1. You cannot, the service to stop people calling through with witheld numbes is called anonumous call rejction. you can have your phone set by BT so when you dial out you always withheld your number. The only way around it is by dialing 1470 first then the number you wish to call and you'll go through but they will be able to see your number I am afriad. The other choice is use a payphone as they will see the number and not always know you are calling from a payphone.

  2. I am not sure. But i know that private individuals can also reject withheld numbers too.  I have used the say no to 0870 site but I find that companys can get funny with you and ask where the number came from that you dialled or they wont answer on that number and re direct your call to the 0870 number.

  3. Hi, in response to your questions

Why do some companies reject withheld numbers?

Not many company's reject callers, but some do, this is mainly down to the fact they wish to capture the CLI (calling line id) of the number calling them, this can be used for screen popping account details as an example.

How can rectify this problem, and still withhold my number?

In short you cannot, if they are baring withheld numbers and yours is with held then the call will bounce at the exchange.
