146 on IQ Test?

So I took an IQ test online and I got a 147, but I am pretty sure the website people boost the score up a little bit so people are happy and buy what they are advertising anyways...

What score do you think I actually got? As if it were a real test?

i am 15 if that matters

  1. Psychometrically speaking, your IQ is your (Mental age / Physical age) times 100. The distribution is your typical bell curve. In this distribution, 147 is in the 99th percentile (i.e. pretty d**n good).

The unfortunate thing is that you most likely don't have the mental age of 22 -- although it certainly is possible! An IQ test done on the internet, for free, without a proctor, is not very reliable. To get a truer score, you would have to take the test in person, with a professional right there scoring you.

At any rate, IQs really don't mean much. I wouldn't sweat it too much if I were you.

    :)

  2. It is impossible to determine you real IQ from this test score. Usually, the web site measures your correct/wrong answers and uses a standard formula to determine an IQ score (not a very accurate one, but still .. ), unfortunately THEN it perform a math random algorithm which adds from 10-60 points to the IQ you earned from the test.

That way people generally end up with results anywhere from 110-160. The goal, as you obviously have noticed, is to make you buy stuff - whether it is a certificate, a "detailed" score report or simply to support their advertisers.

If you are interested in finding out your real IQ, I suggest you take an official Mensa test or visit your school psychologist and ask him/her for one.

Edit: Andrew, the idea that IQ is somehow related to age is an old, disproven one - which, in turn, invalidates your point.

  3. Online IQ tests are rubbish...
