Question:

15 month old in bed?

I am due Jan 15th and my son will be 14 months old when the baby is born. We will co-sleep with the new baby for about a month, but after that he/she will go into the crib. We hate to buy a second crib for such a short amount of time so we'd like to put the new baby in my son's crib. Is it crazy to put him in a bed at around 15 months?

And if we do, are we better off putting him a toddler bed and maybe buying extra bed rails? Or to put our double mattress on the floor w/ bed rails?

Anyone transition their child to a bed at such a young age? And if so, what kind of bed did you use?

  1. It really all depends on how much he moves & rolls.. etc.

If you are going to put him in a bed.. you might want to put the bed on the floor, no box spring & no frame. That way, it will be low to the ground, and if he were to fall off, it wouldn't be a hard fall at all.

Or, you could put him in a bed, with either the safety rail thing, that attaches to the side, or get one of those transforming beds. Those are always great; a bit expensive, but so worth it in my opinion.

    Hope this helped!

This is what I meant by a safety rail:

This might also work too: http://www.ababy.com/itempage.asp?Catego...

And this is what I mean by the transforming bed: http://www.babycribsplus.com/asp/show_de...

    Something like that.

  2. that's not to young to out him in his own bed . you can use a toddler bed or you can get a twin bed with the railings on the side.

  3. Kids should be in a crib until at least 18 months. [ safety recommendations ]. Then they can go to a toddler or regular bed. I would invest in some side rails, too.

[ They should not sleep in a top bunk until at least 6 years old ].

Borrow a crib for a few months.

Then let your little guy 'help' you pick out a 'big boy' bed, with his fav color or character bedding.

  4. My daughter was about that age too and was put in a bed for the same reason (we were having baby #2).  I didn't waste my $ on a toddler bed.  We put a double mattress on the floor so if she did happen to roll off it was a very short drop!  I also used to keep blankets on the floor in the event she did fall off.  Actually she never did fall off the bed.  Once she got older we put the boxspring under the mattress and put a child side rail on the bed just in case.

  5. I dont think it is "crazy" at all if you set one side of a normal bed aginst a wall, then on the other side they have guards so that your child can not roal off so its basicly like a crib its just more geared towards kids between 1 and 3. Hope this helped!
