15 in. wheels were on 79 gmc pu. and plan to put on 92 chevy pu. but the middle hole is bigger for the 79 than the 92 d/t lock out hubs on 79. studs have exact same c/c measurements and fit but will it be safe to run them with the larger middle hole on the 92?

  1. listen if the wheel fits and it dont rub anywhere its fine..... it will be just that it will be lower that it

  2. hard to understand the question, but if the bolt patterns are the same (GM 5 on 4 3/4 )it should be fine

  3. Larger center hole should not make a difference as long as the center hole isn't smaller - then the wheel probably wouldn't fit.

The important thing is to make sure the lug nuts are correct for the wheel.  Different lugs can have different taper to them.

You can also assure that your odometer etc. is accurate by selecting a 15 inch tire that has a diameter close to the original 16 inch tires.  For example one 92 Chevy PU takes 265/75R16 tires which have a 31.6 inch diameter and turn 654 revs per mile. The equivalent 15 inch tire would be a size32x11.5R15 which has a 31.7 inch diameter and turns 655 revs per mile.

Wheels have less to do with being closer to the ground and throwing off the speedometer and odometer than the tire mounted on the wheel does.

  4. You'll be fine safety wise. Two things though. You're going to be closer to the ground so watch it on bumps and driveways. Also your spedometer will be off w/the smaller wheels. This means that you'll be going slower than it reads, and the mileage will rack up faster on the odometer.
