I live in Canada, and I work at Tim Hortons....I just started there in June, and the manager treats me like ****. Ive had a feeling shes wanted me gone for the past month... she always gets mad at me ( over things I know she shouldnt) and today she told me... that my speed of service is extremly slow.... and If I dont improve over the next week, shes letting me go! Like who would fire someone whos pregnant.... This is just an EXCUSE for her to fire me. im not THAT slow at my job... and if I am, its because Im being careful because I had a miscarriage in Feb.... and during this pregnancy Ive had bleeding at 6 weeks and 11 weeks. And she DOES know this. She told me, I know your pregnant, but you have to get your speed up.She is putting me in front of a computer screen starting Monday.... so I can watch what is expected for speed of service! Ive been working at Tim Hortons for 7 years on and off.... Its just cuz Im pregnant, I dont have to watch stupid CDs! I am so frustrated... I dont think this is right. And if I end up losing this job, who would hire a pregnant woman? And would I be working enough to be on maternity leave? I need suggestions... Please, anyone??

  1. All you need to do is contact the HR personal in that department and let them know what is going on.

  2. Maybe she is Jealous of you. Maybe she wants a baby or a family. You should report her she has no right to harass you because your pregnant.

  3. ok well when you handed in the resume there, you didnt tell them that you were pregnant, because if they knew that you were pregnant they wouldnt have hired you because companies cant afford to hire someone then get rid of them after a couple of months because they get pregnant and then try find another person.

sorry but you have no case, she has every right to sack you because she was unaware that you were pregnant and you already knew.

    sorry.

  4. She shouldn't be treating you like that. If I were you, I would look up the number to corporate headquarters, and talk to someone there about the problem. Document EVERYTHING she says to you, and keep copies of any emails/phone conversations you have with headquarters.

You have to work for 6 months to get maternity benefits (unless you've been working for a long period of time before your Tim Horton's job).

  5. You should look into laws and regs in Canada

because I know in Colorado they can't legally fire you without proof of you preforming your job the wrong way. There have just been too many law suits over pregnant women getting fired and ending up with a ton of money...she wouldn't want to put herself in that position.

Good Luck with your baby and I'm sorry about the miscarriage in February.

  6. You need to report her.  I was working with my last employer for about 2 1/2 years.  I won awards, had positive supervisions, blah blah.  When I announced my pregnancy I got backlash from a co-worker who tried to get me fired because "I would'nt be able to pull my weight because of the pregnancy"  She was tattling on me for a while for things that weren't legit (going to lunch with a coworker, therefore cutting down the work staff, doing things out of my job description therefore "neglecting" my work, just whatever she could think of.)  It was to the point where I was getting negative supervisions I gave up and quit.  I regret it.  I had no idea what my options were.

Chances are, she's going to be doing this to someone else so a history of her actions needs to be reported.
