  1. I'm smaller than you and I got into exactly one fight in my entire life and I could have avoided that if I wanted to (I was 17 at the time, what did I know?).

Self defense is more about awareness and not getting into bad situations than it is about trying to fight your way out of one.  Anyone can get in a lucky punch, pull out a weapon, have a friend sneak up behind you, etc.  Get yourself into a school that will teach you those things and you've found the right one.

  2. Aern't you into GKR karate ?dont know what that is but it doesn't seem to be doing much for your confidence or maybe the problem is in you not any art.

and pooh bear has it wrong martial arts were always intended to be self defense we have turned it into c**p by making it a sport and excercises for children.

  3. there is no true answer grasshopper. but my advice if you are going out there looking for a fight... don't! self defense is one thing but training in a martial art it will take years to be able to defend yourself with a measurable degree of success Aikido is a good one (use your attackers strength against them)

  4. Martial arts will take you years to master. Anyway, chinese saying goes "1 bloody mountain taller than another S****y mountain" meaning to say there's sure gonna be someone better than you out there and beat the **** out of you.

So I suggest training up your body for it to be able to take damage. 2nd thing is to train your guts. Most ppl out there got strucked by anxiety and awe and have their body stiffen up like planks to be broken. Hope it helps. dun get yourself killed. frens and familys will be sad for you.

  5. 'Soon enough me and my Friends are going to encounter situations when i and we are going to have to defend ourselves'

Why? Are you going to Iraq or..      I'm 22, never done any martial arts. If you just stay fit and strong enough you can defend yourselves in most situations. I think you got the wrong idea of being like a teenager/young adult- if you are nice to people you wont be beating eachother up everyday XD

  6. Krav Maga

  7. Ok first you have swan who recomends krav maga, which is a good style, however seeing as how he has a couple of questions asking about if American kempo is any good, I doubt if he really trains.

With respect to Pooh Bear, martial arts is designed for self defnese. Martial refers to mars who was the god of war, and the accepted translation of martial arts is leterly war arts. And yes you are allowed to use martial arts for self defense, I do not know where people come up with this.

I also agree with Bunminju when you asked another question about GKR karate and should you continue. Sounds to me like

    1) Either what you are taking doesn't give you any confidence.

    2) You are trolling.

If it is the first one then yes you should probably find a different school.style.

  8. Martial arts is a sport. It is not 'fighting' and will never prepare you for 'street' combat. Self defense classes will probably suit you better. It is illegal to use a martial art in self defense and you could get in trouble or injury yourself if you are not experienced enough.

Edit: Plus, (and I know you are probably thinking 'oh shut up girl, what would you know etc.'. WALK AWAY when possible. Look at how many deaths there has been on the news recently and all over something stupid - MY goodness, people are out there in other countries fighting a WAR and kids go off like this these days bullying and stuff. I remember just the other week reading about a girl that was kicked to DEATH by 14 year old boys because she tried to stop them hurting her boyfriend (Who was also KILLED). IS IT REALLY WORTH IT!!?

  9. lol forget that martial arts c**p boxing is better I'm 13 i do boxing its way better forget that Chinese c**p.

  10. "martial arts is a sport blah blah cant prepare u for a fight" some1 obviously doesnt know what they are talking about

  11. You Dont Have 2 Learn Martial Arts..Normally Martial Arts Says Not ALLOWED 2 Be Used Outside Of The Martial Arts School..Im A Trainer And Im 14 Years Old..I Think All You Need 2 Do Is Say 'I Dont Want No Trouble' Theres No Point Putting Yourself In Situations Like That..I Certainly Wouldnt..If You Was In A Fight,Theres Basic Punches,Kicks On Youtube..Search It Up Or Somthing. If You Was Intresting In Starting Martial Arts 4 A Hobbie,Do Wado Ryu & Maarlisk Its Everything You Need 2 Know From Knife Attacks 2 Gun Attacks.

    Stay Safe ;)

  12. I'd do 3 things -

    1) start with a boxing school.  They'll teach you how to be evasive, get you in shape, and teach you to use your hands for offense and defense.  So you'll learn a handful of punches REALLY well and FAST - fast seems to be a concern, since you are already in situations where you need some self-defense skills.  And all fights start off standing, so you need these skills.

    2) Judo or some kind of grappling (wrestling, jiu jitsu, etc.) would do you a lot of good where boxing leaves a gap - once you clinch with someone, or the fight goes to the ground.  I choose Judo because you learn quickly as far as basic defense and attacks, and the basics really work.  Jiu Jitsu is probably more effective against a skilled opponent, but you aren't likely to run into a trained opponent in a street/pub situation. (There are schools that teach both striking and grappling - that might be a good option for you - look around and see what's available in your area.)

    3) watch where you go and who you are with.  There are places that sort of draw the fighting crowd - don't go unless you are ready to defend yourself.

Practice with your friends, but do it in a school.  And don't be tempted to test your skills unless you want to get hurt.  Real fights end up with real injuries.  You will gain some confidence quickly - don't let it go to your head and make you cocky.  Good luck.

  13. Really, the best way if inevitable, is to hate, it triggers your adrenaline, and try to beat the other guy with everything in your arsenal, barehands, bats whatever do not stop until at least one of them starts bleeding, cause the moment you lost your momentum, thats it.

However,I think the most efficient way is to catch them unaware, I was in this situation of a group fight, my group, well you can say not as powerful as the opponents (they were street thugs anyway). there were 5 of them, acting tough waiting in the parking lot, well without further ado and them knowing I was there, we bash them with everything we got.

So, First catch them unaware, hit them in vital area, being disoriented they are prone to your next assault, and victory is more likely yours, however if things does not bode well, better run

  14. I like Kenpo karate, its an american form of karate and i reached brown belt, not bad for a girl. It teaches you discipline, technique, stamina ans skill, but it isn't for real fighting, its self defense. There is also sparring which is kinda like kick boxing but with protective helmets an mouth pieces in. Good luck!

  15. Try getting good at a sport that's popular in your school. That way you'll be in good relations with the popular kids and won't get beat up =) other than that, i'd say Tae-kwon-do (no idea how to spell it, but u get the idea)

  16. I'm going to offer a different view... At 15 you should be working on how not to get into a fight. Practice awareness, avoidance, and don't get into any fights. If you get into a fight, even if it is minor it could turn worse at any moment. If you loose that will only make you an easy target, "win" and people might be looking for revenge. You have your life ahead of you and you don't want to get in trouble with the law, etc. Control the situation and be aware so a fight never happens.

  17. Japanese Jiu-jitsu.

    Best wishes :)***
