  1. you will have to take of the cly cover to the outboards left? or right side which ever side has the slot of the cable an sensor.

then you place it in the hole put the gasket an cover back on run the wire to the wire on your harness an then on the other end just run the cable into your contorl box an you should be good.

thats what my dad did with his.

  2. what do you mean the horn failed, sounds like it was incorrectly hooked up. in 1989 all omc motors had an updated control system. every time the key is turned on, an audible beep is heard this tells you that the horn IS working. did the dealer/rigger rig the boat correctly. any way that motor has multiple signals that go to the horn, and if done incorrectly can drastically affect and or damage the engine. the temp sensors, control ignition timeing(in quick start and s.l.o.w.) the warning horn is also connected to the vro system. if you have a surface control mount control set the horn is in there.contact me thru answers and I can help you

  3. Geez, guys! Let's not get to difficult here! The overheat sensors are in each head , with a single brown wire. If you don't want to get too confused, try buying a new alarm horn, find the sensors and hook one wire to the sensors, and the other to positive voltage ( the purple wire off the key switch) then, if the sensor gets hot, it grounds and will cause the alarm to go off.
